As someone who was there and part of the music rating council, if it was featured in Subspace Emissary as an important track it was probably one of the best in that game. They knew when they were cooking.

by "anecdotal evidence" i mostly mean the one time i watched my middle aged japanese boss boot it up on the famicom and perfectly execute the 1st loop because it was still in his muscle memory 35 years later

I always see NES spelunker called things like "one of the most infamous kusoge" "possibly the original kusoge" "king of kusoge" but it's hard to find any actual evidence that it's considered kusoge at all and anecdotally it seems like it was lampooned for being difficult, but well received...?

To be fair, that is just Bubsy. He fundamentally is an annoying little shithead, and I actually think the person they have voicing him is one of the better Bubsy VAs.

I question what the point even is of taking Bubsy and forcing it into this different mold without any respect at all for what the original games were doing. I’m not the biggest fan of 1, 2 or 3D, sure. But if you're bringing back Bubsy, why turn it into Bad Mario Odyssey? C'mon, we can do better.
