There are a disturbing number of people who think like this. I've been seeing a rising number of commenters on my Hidden Gems roundup who are upset at being shown games they've never heard about, because if they haven't heard about it, it must be bad and thus it can't be a gem, so I must be lying.

i certainly have some issues with za but most of them have to do with the writing and game design. I don't think my experience would be substantially improved by higher quality graphics

i know it isn't a novel take but i really think most big studios need to lower game budgets. like in theory it is deeply embarrassing that pokemon legends za has wallpapered on textures but in practice i don't care or even notice because i'm busy having fun playing a video game

The money/hour of entertainment is part of the problem here IMHO.

Games take an enormous amount of time to have a complete experience these days. I would actually rather spend $20-30 on movie tickets or books.

The last game I played to completion is Silksong, by the end I just wanted it done.

AAA video games should cost $100 on launch. this would still be extremely cheap for the amount of time and enjoyment you get out of them! But an audience of whiny babies has kept them literally at the same price for *two decades* despite both general inflation *and* sector-specific costs rising
