The music cuts off awkwardly before the end, but this is an incredible NYC Halloween costume compilation.

Right now, our amazing service members with the California National Guard are helping power expanded food bank operations across the state.

California refuses to let the Trump government shutdown's halt to federal food assistance abandon Californians in need.

We asked people who lived in homeless encampments that were cleared out in city “sweeps” to write about what object was the hardest for them to lose.

“They took my baby pictures and my moms obituaries,” a man in California wrote.

“I Have Lost Everything”: The Toll of Cities’ Homeless Sweeps
Cities often take belongings — including important documents and irreplaceable mementos — when they conduct sweeps of homeless encampments. ProPublica gave notecards to people across the country so th...

This really was one of my main takeaways
I think the Reagan ad is most effective not by the topic but by reminding everyone that presidents don't have to sound like insane morons.

Popok: Letitia James appeared in court today in Virginia, and she's already filed multiple motions against the DOJ, Trump, and Lindsey Halligan.

The first motion is a motion to dismiss because Lindsey Halligan has been improperly, illegally appointed to be the U.S. attorney.
All I'm saying is Sarkozy should have taken a copy of Khalil Gibran's The Prophet to prison with him instead of the count of Monte Cristo. When I think about the book that I would want in prison, that would be the one.

"Looking up 'reparations' in textbooks is to find it absent altogether, or only in reference to end of WWI or US payments in '80s to Japanese Americans (incarcerated in WWII concentration camps)."

Ending key privacy initiatives at one of the world's largest tech companies, in the midst of an authoritarian takeover of the world's oldest democracy, is tragic, unconscionable, and not at all accidental.
“Google has suddenly confirmed privacy initiatives ‘are being phased out.’ The Privacy Sandbox, now in its sixth year, has essentially ended just months after Google confirmed tracking is here to stay and there are no viable alternatives.”

Someone firebombed a queer friendly ice cream shop in Minneapolis.
Just witnessed someone trying to fireb*mb Fletcher’s Ice Cream in NE. Saw a dude acting weird next to a parked car in front of the place. I walked by, heard a smash through my earbuds, smelled gasoline/kerosine. Turned around, snapped some photos instinctively. Thankfully they suck at molot*vs.

EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

We'll know we are winning the dystopian hellscape when the companies start advertising using footage of people humiliating ICE while in their products. Can't you envision a running shoe or bike commercial featuring one of those excellent scenes?
So is the silver lining that now we won't have people saying masks keep you from breathing properly?

Devastation in western Alaska has been essentially ignored by our supposed "news" organizations. And by people like Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski.
Where is FEMA?

This is a very good point about DHS. They direct harassment campaigns on Twitter using quote-tweets.
US Government accounts have arrived on Bluesky.

Block on sight.

Protect your digital space.

Be aware that the DHS account in particular is known to quote dunk on regular people to encourage their followers to harass them.

The detach quote function will come in very handy here…
The Democrats should have a standing fund that they get billionaire donors to put money into to pay a baseline wage to federal workers during a shutdown. They should do it all the time. They should do it regardless party and it's really stupid that they don't
I guess, but given how much other big actors are publicly having to make hard decisions about associating with the material, I'm skeptical.
I actually don't think this can possibly be true that she didn't know
I understand the sentiment of "we need to find some way to not all see each other mortal enemies" but it REALLY REALLY needs to be made expressly clear that one side wants to live and be happy and the other side is "that's a line too far and you must suffer and die" and you can't Kumbaya that.
oh no. no. absolutely the fuck not. fuck off.
