With Hockey RPF the fanfic was for the romance and the sex, the things canon didn't provide. But in Heated Rivalry canon does provide. So logic dictates that the fanfic is there to make them actually play hockey.

the thing is that *i* am also like "i wish there was more hockey in this," because I love hockey. but that's an objectively silly complaint, akin to asking why Bridgerton doesn't have more rural land taxation sequences. it's a relationship-centric narrative!
What I've found *fascinating* is the number of "why isn't there more hockey in this?" comments. 😅 Like, my sweet summer child have you never read hockey fanfic? (don't get me wrong, I love when a fic has some well-written hockey in it, but most don't!)

i don’t really care abt this old vs nu trek debate but this is a v funny thing to say about a franchise which has a literal mirror universe where everyone is Very Evil and also has a moustache
Course those shows had villains. But they were villains that had a degree of dimension and subtlety to them. They weren’t all paint-by-numbers, moustache-twirling, scenery-chewing nutcases with zero motivation for why they are the way they are.
