That's right, you all get another tale of Fox and Troll, the two greatest thieves in all of Rookdrift. If you're looking for ANYTHING else to do besides watching the dumpster burn, this cozy adventure might be your ticket.
The Challenger memories reminded me of my history teacher, William Forschten, who applied for the program. Advised the medieval club; helped us build a ballista. Took us on a trip to NY to see the Cloisters, the Met. First SF writer I met, and I read his 1st published book "The Ice Prophet"

Someone posted this as "Evolution of the Microsoft Trash Icon," and I decided to repost it.

Yep. Accurate.

(for those unsure: last two icons are MS Teams and MS Copilot which are indeed complete trash)

This is not the scare tactic he thinks it is. Hell, we live in a society where it seems every other person WANTS to be famous. Not me, but I wouldn't give a rats ass if the human thumb here did this to me. I'd be damned fucking proud I irritated the fascists so much.
TOM HOMAN: “We’re going to create a database where those people that are arrested for interference, impeding and assault, we’re going to make them famous. We’re going to put their face on TV. We’re going to let their employers, in their neighborhoods, in their schools, know who these people are.”

Was outside shoveling at 5:30 today so the wife could leave early. Had 2-3 inches overnight (about 12 total from the storm).

Meanwhile, our 75 year-old retired neighbor loves his snowblower, and helping neighbors, so he swung by just now and did... fuck all I think, but bless him, he's a gem.

Please. Show up at our house. I've got my ICE is Gestapo sign out front, you can't miss it. Add the info the FBI database I'm probably in for previous protests I took part in while I laugh at you impotent cock thistles.

And you better hope he gives you numb nuts a pardon on the way out the door.
ICE is changing tactics in Maine: "Now, the volunteers in Maine say federal agents have started showing up at their homes and intimidating them or threatening arrest. Some of them, masked and wearing tactical gear, have issued stark warnings not to follow them." www.pressherald.com/2026/01/23/i...

I know you all are grieving just as much as we are. But there has been a shift and it appears the gestapo may be pulled from MN very shortly. Bovino has already been demoted and recalled.

I know there's not much to be joyful about, but the Patriots are going back to the Superbowl and I am drinking the salty tears of angry fans who despise them. I grew up only knowing them as bumbling losers for 40 years, the last 25 have been hilarious.

Also, snow games are the best. Always.

We officially bottomed out at -8 F last night. Pretty cold for coastal Maine (-25 up north though). We did our grocery shopping early yesterday morning to avoid the crowds (and it worked), and are now getting ready to hunker down for a foot plus of snow tonight & tomorrow.

It was pure luck that this amazing story landed in the slush pile at Trollbreath magazine, giving us the opportunity to share it with readers for the first time. We're thrilled Jennifer is getting the kudos she deserves for it!
And ALSO... "The Colonists" is on the shortlist for @tenebrouspress.bsky.social Brave New Weird...!!! What an incredible honor! tenebrouspress.com/blog/2026/1/...

Officially hit 0 degrees F this morning, with the coldest spots in Maine at around -14. Not nearly as bad as the midwest. You poor folks in Wisconsin are seeing temps as cold as -40 (which works on both F and C scales... it's where they meet).

Stay warm friends! Don't go out if you don't have to.

The storm is now officially "real" for my area. My Dr. just called to cancel my Monday morning follow up. You know it be real when downeast Maine starts rescheduling shit three days in advance.

The fact Golden voted in favor, despite retiring this year, is an absolute indication he's a fucking Republican in all but name and we're better off without that traitor to the working class.
NEW: DHS appropriations bill funding ICE passes 220-207

7 Democrats voted YES on the bill:
- Jared Golden
- Marie Gluesenkamp Perez
- Henry Cuellar
- Tom Suozzi
- Laura Gillen
- Don Davis
- Vicente Gonzalez

One Republican voted NO: Thomas Massie

A good run down of all the things wrong with the now pretty much defunct "Line," by the wonderful Kate Wagner, whose "McMansion Hell" posts have always been a favorite of mine (along with her deeper forays into specific architectural trends).

I get very Cake (the band) vibes from this. A great working class song, and hilarious.

I've just started reading "Blood in the Machine" by Brian Merchant, and am just floored by how obvious the growing movement against LLM tools resembles the movement in the 19th century against automation and industrialization by workers.

Just a little light reading for the coming revolution...

I uh... I made that happen, folks. I had a little day dream yesterday morning... and it came true. Mostly. The part where it got back safely was unexpected, but first attempts and so forth...

I'll keep working on it.

But beware the power of MY MIND!

We prefer a sustainable place were we can enjoy sharing.

Engagement/virality aren't useful measures. Those are things influencers seek, and things other platforms have weaponized through shitty algo's.

People can learn how to find interesting people/threads WITHOUT being spoon fed toxic crap.
A tale of three apps. Identical post sent at the same time:

Twitter: 136,000 likes, 20,000 shares

Threads: 46,000 likes, 4,000 ahares

Bluesky: 149 likes, 45 shares

To be clear, I have 60k followers on Twitter, 15k on Bluesky, but only 7k on Threads.

I love Bluesky, but this isn't sustainable.

Advice to folks: if you're facing ICE during protests, bring a burner phone with you to film with. They are confiscating/stealing/destroying phones, on top of far worse crimes.

If they detain you, remember: shut the fuck up. "I want a lawyer" are the only words you need.
