With the show that has been so pivotal to my online identity being five years old, I figured it'd be fun to analyze how well the show holds & why it struck such a chord. And you may also find some surprise discoveries from what was to come...

Join me as we look back at Glitch Techs, 5 years later.
Any animation fan who hasn't seen this film by now really needs to get to it as soon as they can. Tis a true unspoken Christmas classic from a unique perspective, with all the feels, atmosphere, & humor you could ask from one.

And then go through the rest of Satoshi Kon's catalog while you're at it
Tokyo Godfathers is one of the best films of this century. A key reason is that it portrays Tokyo with an almost overwhelming level of care and detail.

Satoshi Kon and his team moved mountains to make this film's world feel real — as we explore today: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/satoshi-ko...

I'm late to the Reiner mourning, but yeah, even a cursory look at what the man has done makes it apparent we've lost so much more than just a talented actor and director.

2025 has just been a year of incalculable loss, culturally speaking. It does not feel fair to have this year bookended by the preventable deaths of David Lynch and Rob Reiner and various other deeply unfair and evil shit happening to the medium of film on top of that

Rob Reiner made some great movies but he was also unafraid to speak the truth, and was one of the public voices who knew you don’t squander your platform, and only got louder about opposing evil fucks as he got older. Legend.

This is your occasional reminder that attention is literally their business model, and when you don’t give it to them, they fail.
Elon's little serfs are quite literally begging journalists to come back because every publicly available source of data shows people have fled the platform and young people won't use it.

They are literally begging regular people to come back. Don't do it! It is a website by and for actual Nazis!

We library folk do a good job talking about all the free services we offer, but I don’t see many of us talking about how libraries are one or the only places where you can use services without being advertised to.

I did learn one thing though just by walking around and doin my thing yesterday. I wont go into details but...

CEOs are indeed worried about how much power we have as a collective. C-Suite is VERY concerned about how we respond to their actions.

Remember that we have more control than they'd like.

We really need to double down on outwardly stating our work does not contain AI.

We're seeing it in movie credits and books, we have to start putting it on things we make and pressuring others to label their work as human made, and normalize that as much as we can, I think.
stuff like this maybe

Deleted the BlueSky app from my phone. I'm sorry, I just can not deal with all this doom anymore. It is actively destroying any sanity I have left, especially when it's during work hours.

I'll still be here, it'll just be limited to when I am on my personal laptop for the time being.

The pop of the AI bubble and subsequent economy crash needs to become the death of this era of predatory capitalism and venture capital and 'line go up'. We need to make it that however we can. I don't want to hear defeatist talk that it won't be. We only have the power when we all believe we do.

ISTG, after AI has officially imploded into the ether, artists all across the board need to make a point to start significantly upping the value of their work, as a way to firmly state 'never undervalue what we do ever again because we now have proof you can't replace us even if you try'.
