Best description I can make of Bluesky is that it is a Twitter analog divided nigh evenly between joyless people that cannot take anything without dreadfully grave seriousness, and people who are incapable of taking anything seriously.
One thing that I'm not sure the Bluesky political contingent has quite reckoned with yet is the idea that we're probably going to need to accept one thing:

We are either going to have to look back, or move forward. We are very likely not going to get both.

Apparently, my closest local group is Progressive Sports and Culture Enthusiasts... which... sure. Why not?
I made a map of 3.4 million Bluesky users - see if you can find yourself!

I've seen some similar projects, but IMO this seems to better capture some of the fine-grained detail

Dear Dunkin Donuts:

Anyone who remembers the era you tried to appeal to has spent the last quarter century trying to FORGET that era, and anyone else is either too old or too young to understand a single damn reference you used like a toddler grabbing cooking pot lids.

Sincerely,
the entire world.

Listen, I'm going to put this as simply as I can.

Until someone is willing to publish my books, Amazon is simply the only place where I get anything resembling decent sales.

I'd love an actual alternative. I've been BEGGING for one.

Trump’s racist post depicting the Obamas as apes has been removed from his Truth Social feed, with the White House claiming it was posted “erroneously” by a staffer.

After Charlie Kirk was shot, UCLA DEI director Johnathan Perkins said he was "glad when bigots die.” But was it a fireable offense? I spoke to Perkins and look at what's happened with the dozens of campus faculty and staff suspensions after Kirk's death:

House and Senate "leaders" simply aren't "leaders" in the way that the American left wants them to be (and weren't chosen for that purpose to begin with), and demanding blood from that stone is merely a path towards endless frustration and teeth gnashing.
People are going to be really mad that the ask here isn’t abolishing any deportation ever (which would be my choice if it was just up to me) but this is a very calculated list of reasonable asks that Republicans will lose their minds over, reinforcing revulsion in the American lizard brain.

I tend to treat boobs like baby pictures. If you're proud of 'em and want to show 'em, I'm not gonna refuse, but I'm not gonna ask.
I know I’m getting old because only 2 Internet men asked to see my boobs this week.

I've been thinking recently about Fran Lebowitz's quote on Donald Trump.

“You do not know anyone as stupid as Donald Trump. You just don’t.”

Well, I hate to break it to you, anyone who has worked any amount of time in customer service can probably name 10 people just off the top of their heads.

The most unsurprising "surprise" I have ever seen.

And it is ENTIRELY understandable, no matter how much gamers are going to whine about this.

"ICE and Border Patrol might be killing people, but the incivility of protestors are making it difficult to have any other response."

There ya go @nytpitchbot.bsky.social . You can have that one for free.
"When one fed attempted to blow off the crowd by visibly watching basketball highlights on his phone, a protester shouted “You’re watching ads, you broke bitch! Kill yourself!” The federal agent returned to his room shortly thereafter."

Here's the thing, the same reason why I wasn't upset the Dems weren't being loud is the same reason I'm not estatic they are increasingly being loud.

It's ALL performative nonsense without Republican support. The noise might make us FEEL better, but it's not changing anything.

Ya know, I kinda feel bad for Stalin. I mean... he put a LOT of effort into his villainy. He worked HARD to be a iron-fisted piece of shit.

And he keeps getting overshadowed by an endless litany of fascists idiots who probably needed help just getting their pants on in the morning.
There's a sequel where he goes up against Stalin era Soviets and this has prompted me to watch it tonight. I bet the action is bigger but the payoff won't be the same.

Matt Tiabbi is exactly the sort of white person MLK Jr. wrote about in a Birmingham jail.
Hey, man, why don't you try not talking for a while?
Matt Taibbi criticizes the ICE protests in Minneapolis, and says Martin Luther King Jr. would not have approved of them.

Taibbi claims MLK would not support "guilt because of racial identity" or "bringing religion into it".

I see a lot of articles lately (most recently from Drew Magary) basically with a similar premise.

Who wants to be the hero that stands up to the "weak" Trump regime?

Well... to Mr. Magary and everyone else on social media who posts this, lemme offer this question.

What's stopping YOU?

I think the fundamental problem I have with "messaging matters" advocates is that it makes an assumption about people that I see very little evidence is true.

The assumption being that people can sense "something is wrong" and are just waiting for the right message to call them to action. (1)

I shouldn't be surprised how many of our institutions and "pillars" are simply amoral louts who will utter whatever mouth noises they need to in order to kiss the ass of power... but some of them genuinely astonished me with their lack of ANY scruples.

Every so often, you get a sign you're old.

Like... finding a Youtube video about the failure of the Sega Game Gear, and how the video makes its findings seem like ground breaking historical research, and you already know all this shit because you were there watching it happen in real time.

Sister: I don't mind [little brother] enjoying his blorbos.
Me: Did you just invent a new word?
Little Brother: No, it's a phrase from Tumblr.
Me: Ah.
Little Brother: You didn't know that?
Me: No. I don't use Tumblr. I've had sex.
Little Brother: ... You're such a dick.

So, someone told me that Expedition: 33 won 354 "Game of the Year" awards, and maybe it makes me a bad person that all that told me is that there are probably WAY too many "Game of the Year" awards.

Seeing "US Military Strategy" trending, and my immediate thought was that was such a depressing contradiction of terms right now.

Fun fact: (Insert Dem firebrand here) would be just as powerless to stop Donald Trump without GOP support as Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer are now.

Fascinating that even now, we are more eager to keep fighting each other than the right-wing extremists in charge of everything.
