Glad you like. My brain wouldn't let me do anything until I wrote this. 🤣

Why? She loved Collin. That was why she was marrying him. Only then Avery said what he did, and he was sitting right there. Maybe, if she moved quickly, but then *pop*.

"How could you?"

"There's an arc. Live with it."

A quick shower, cold in the hope it would be enough, only to find it hadn't done anything at all. Dressing, Avery right there, Freya headed back to San My, certain she'd be able to reach him. They couldn't be in control all the time. Not when she needed the conversation. She watched Avery.

Freya slipped through the crowd, eyes on the man she needed to talk to. Avery stood at the bar. Somewhere Collin sat, excited about their coming wedding, but she couldn't get his twin out of her head. She'd just reached him when *pop*.

"Dammit."

There was no doubting what that was, but...

Needing multiple streams of income to stay afloat is a societal failure not a personal one. You should be able to afford a comfortable lifestyle with one job. You are not lazy.

Today's queue is up on the feed. Of course Titus has gone and changed the entire arc that follows this, but fine...

Gathering her courage, Celeste lifted her head, and where there'd once been a house there was almost nothing. She stood, stepping closer. There was no pretending the same thing hadn't happened to all the other buildings, including her own home. If she'd gone home she might have saved her family.
The land where the Lockwood house once was.
thelockwoods.me.uk
Whoever was in the house had fought to the very end. Yet it hadn't been enough, and it was never going to be, because what happened wasn't something anyone could have stopped. Even Anne, if she'd still been there. Celeste closed her eyes. At least they had tried. They'd fought for Glimmerbrook.
Celeste, still kneeling, her eyes closed.
thelockwoods.me.uk
Nothing would ever be the same again. Celeste was certain of that. Her power was gone. From all around her she'd felt the rumbles, and there was no doubting what it meant, but she wasn't ready to look. Not yet. Instead she stayed on her knees, where she'd ended up as her power was taken from her.
Celeste on the ground with her eyes focused on the ground.
thelockwoods.me.uk
The rumbles stopped, power gone, but he was still there, just about. He'd protected the basement. Unfortunately the rest of the world would never be the same. Breathing in deeply, unable to ignore the tear, Titus thought about what came next. Somehow he was still there, although he shouldn't be.
Titus with his head down, still kneeling.
thelockwoods.me.uk
He'd never thought of himself as 'a' Titus before, but he technically was. One who made a lot of foolish mistakes, and never telling Anne how he felt was one of them, because he'd chosen to make the 'logical' choice. Thanks to Julian he'd never be able to. Instead he'd do what he could for her.
Titus kneeling on the floor, hands behind him, eyes on the ceiling.
thelockwoods.me.uk
Power passed him, but Titus kept the walls up. He couldn't let them go. Behind him Julian had faded into nothing, the same way he would, when the time came. Unless... he felt the tear still pulling at him. As a Titus he was different. The link he had to the birthplace of magic was different.
Titus with both hands out.
thelockwoods.me.uk
For Anne to learn anything about what happened, because Titus could See her return, the basement had to stay whole, and that meant holding it together while the rest of Glimmerbrook fell apart around him. Maybe the survivors would be able to use it for somewhere to sleep, if they chose to stay.
Titus with one hand out.
thelockwoods.me.uk
Power washed over him, Titus able to feel the first rumbles of what was coming above as he stepped over to the archway, because all the houses had been built with magic too. Including the very basement he was in. None of them had thought about what might happen if magic faded from the world.
Titus standing close to the archway, hands out in front of him.
thelockwoods.me.uk
That was wishful thinking. No one could control the storm Celeste felt, and yet they were still trying. It was probably Titus. He'd never been the kind of person who'd give up, so he was doing everything possible to stop what was happening, more power rushing past her toward the house.
Celeste, hands in front of her.
thelockwoods.me.uk
Slowly, fighting the power, Titus pulled himself up a little, doing his best to ignore the pain. It was similar to when it flooded through him before. Outside it was likely everyone else would be feeling something similar, and he couldn't save them. Not without Anne. With her so far away...
Titus fighting to do what needed to be done.
thelockwoods.me.uk
The logical option was to leave, go back home, warn her family what was coming, but there was no way to stop it. Whoever was still fighting was the only person who had a chance of doing that, and Celeste couldn't take her mind off the Lockwood house. If they succeeded no one would need to be told.
Celeste still watching the house, more worried.
thelockwoods.me.uk
Oh, honey, I'm so sorry this is happening to you. You don't deserve it. I love you. I love your stories. At the same time if you feel you need to leave for your own sanity I fully support that. (I'll be incredibly sad it came to that, but I understand sometimes you have to make that choice.) 💜
thelockwoods.me.uk
Controlling the power was harder as the tear got bigger, Titus's soul pulled by it, the way it was always going to be. He'd become part of the birthplace of magic when he entered it during his first life. Julian was slightly safer, but the bond would likely be doing something similar, with no Anne.
Titus in pain, as he tries to gain some kind of control.
thelockwoods.me.uk
Within the house someone still fought. Celeste could feel it, even though she couldn't see it. Those who were born with the ability to see magic were rare, and maybe it was for the best, because she could imagine what it would look like - a storm, full of lightning, as power was drawn to the house.
Celeste studying the house.
thelockwoods.me.uk
More power was drawn in, the tear becoming larger rather than smaller, and Titus knew he'd failed. Even using Julian's soul wouldn't have been enough. It was too late. His own power was being pulled toward it, Julian's already gone, but Titus clung to it, because there was something he could do.
thelockwoods.me.uk
From the way the power sparked it was obvious she wouldn't. Then Celeste felt it, coming from behind her, and that didn't make any sense. It was as though the Lockwood house was drawing all the magic in Glimmerbrook toward it, whether it was part of the world or a person. Even her own power.
Celeste looking more worried.
