IMHO the better way is to just get Debian running and have a very small package delta for a device. I have shouted "BUSYBOX" way too many times in anger on systems that have gigs and watched many people burn out or just abandon their Yocto builds. If you miss the challenge you can just adapt Nix for it or prepare an American's tax return
