Agree with Sacha below. Māni is always offering a masterclass. One caveat, though, and this is absolutely not for Māni or Mihi or the other journalists skilled in Te Ao Māori me Te Ao Pākeha politics.
@mrxdentith.com I feel like you would look amazing in this

Holy shit, and also, great blessings upon the family of the human recipient mentioned in the article for allowing their loved one with no remaining brain activity to be a test candidate to determine if their body would reject a treated kidney.
This is huge news!
UBC has developed an enzyme that can convert donor organs to type O, making them universal.
Normally a using organs of the wrong blood type causes the recipient's immune system to attack the organ, leading to failure.

Where’s good to stay in HK folks?
I was sleep deprived at book club and may have said how I really felt to the guy who said he had read Atlas Shrugged
Elderly lady that works in our neighbourhood said 好久不见 (long time no see) and I understood her! A little thing but the first time someone has said something other than hello when I wasn't prepared that I've completely got 😅
For molecular scientists:
"Did you add primer?"
In honour of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story only someone in your profession would understand.

“Waiting on reviewer B.”

"My printer won't connect."

(alternately for the disability 'profession': "New medical certificate required.")
It’s very difficult, start now!

We'd love to have a huge turn out for Nic's talk. Please help spread the word. There are downloadable pdf adverts in the link below. They can be emailed or printed. If you work in a public space (e.g. Library) you could help by printing and posting one of the flyers. Ngā mihi nui!

One of the things I've talked about here is the nature of "performative public policy" or policy initiatives that superficially exist within accepted policy narratives, but in reality aren't about achieving policy goals. Instead, the announcement of the policy is a political end, not a policy one.
#nzpol Sometimes a policy is so stupid it makes you question the very fabric of reality. Decisions so fabulously, almost wantonly dumb, you wonder if we actually live in a simulation. Welcome to the world of removing Jobseeker Support for 18 & 19-year-olds. craigrenney.substack.com/p/a-small-wr...
A small wrinkle in the Jobseeker policy
The government’s recent changes to benefits feel like this: the house is on fire, and this policy is them turning off the smoke alarm and saying it’s fixed

Spotted this gem in a footnote on page 62 of Treasury's He Tirohanga Mokopuna

"Between 25% and 30% of everyone born in New Zealand is living overseas by age 30, and emigration rates are even higher among those with tertiary qualifications"

Radical idea here - how about stop shitting on our young?
Footnote from Treasury's 2025 He Tirohanga Mokopuna

"See Hughes, (2025a) and Hughes & Crichton (2025). Between 25% and 30% of everyone born in New Zealand is living overseas by age 30, and emigration rates are even higher among those with tertiary qualifications. Student loan holders living overseas commonly cease repayments, and these loans are sometimes written off as a result. Ministry of Education (2023)."

He Tirohanga Mokopuna is Treasury's long-term fiscal statement and it's full of woe about the funding of NZ Super. Not enough about maybe trying a LOT harder to keep people here.

Can we also discuss the fact that these clowns are also dumping ridiculous work on GPs + NPs who will now be expected to write letters to WINZ about family breakdown? This is literally NOT MY JOB

Our international news is so tied into US and UK networks that it never made any sense either regionally or ethically, even more so now that both these countries are busy dismantling their liberal democratic norms
Israel is about to do war crimes, including against NZ nationals, and I haven't seen a single NZ outlet livestreaming this. If they can somehow do a Charlie Kirk livestream, on multiple occasions, you'd think this would garner some journalistic attention
text on gaza flotilla livestream on al jazeera:

"Israeli media reports that Israeli navy, commandos preparing to intercept Sumud
Israeli public broadcaster Kan is reporting that Israel is planning to “take control” of the Global Sumud Flotilla, using navy commandoes as well as the Israeli navy, given “the large number of vessels” sailing with the fleet to break the blockade of Gaza.

“According to the plan, hundreds of activists will be gathered on large navy ships, and brought for questioning and deportation from Israel through the port of Ashdod,” Kan reported.

“The fact that there are about 50 vessels will not allow them all to be towed, so some of the vessels will be sunk at sea,” the report added.

It also noted that the flotilla is different to previous missions, as it includes “dozens of vessels and is accompanied by warships”, the broadcaster said."

Was surprised to learn on Waatea News recently that the deputy PM doesn’t think politicians should change election rules without a public vote, and am expecting that Act will withdraw its support for restrictions on voter registration any day now thespinoff.co.nz/politics/01-...
But if you don’t live by your principles, they start to look less like principles, and more like self-interest. On Waatea, Seymour left no room for doubt: he believes meaningful election changes should be put to a public vote before they’re enacted. Surely what’s good for the lefty goose is good for the libertarian gander. The Electoral Amendment Bill will have its second reading in the coming months. There’s still time for the deputy prime minister – and the government – to have a change of heart, and show some consistency.
Ok it wasn't Too bad, they had heaps of security, volunteers with signs and crowd control barriers
