It's so cool how this government is doing so many Trumpian things- voter suppression, climate denial, interfering in education against expert advice, destroying healthcare, rolling back environmental protections- but we're still largely treating them as normal and being like 'But how's the economy?'

We are now further away from the theatrical release of Raiders of the Lost Ark (June 12, 1981) than it was from the year it takes place in (1936). We have reached the Indiana Jones event horizon.

My daughter, lying in her hospital bed on the oncology ward, unable to breathe, and no staff were to be found when I called out for help.
SO NICOLA WILLIS COULD KEEP MONEY MEANT FOR MEDICAL STAFF WAGES
As Craig Renney revealed to a shocked Dr Gary Payinda, Te Whatu Ora underspent its wages budget by $500m which has been signed off by Willis & returned to general coffers. Let that sink in. The money was there, but they deliberately underspent. On orders?

Mōrena whanāu. Early morning showers obscured sunrise but welcome after Tamaki Makaurau's hottest November day on record yesterday. (I suspect we're going to hear that phrase quite a bit this summer). Anyway, Kia pa to rā!

Fun fact: New Zealand's first homegrown rock 'n' roll song was 'Pie Cart Rock 'n' Roll' (1957). It goes deep.
* New Zealand takes pies (namely, handheld meat pies) so seriously that there are National Pie Awards that get major media coverage. The New Zealand National Library has a whole dedicated category for “Pies — Competitions.”

It is absolutely critical to democracy that communities directly own their water infrastructure but also unimportant that those same communities get to decide how they look after our environment?

If cognitive dissonance could be harnessed for fuel then we could all live happily ever after

Just a reminder that Luxon's first overseas speech as National's leader (you know, the one where he called us "whiny & inward looking") was to the Policy Exchange, one of the junktanks which promoted Brexit.

BTW, have you seen our GDP figures? No coincidence, surely?🙄
Still reeling from the Stanford report on Brexit. Reduced GDP by up to 8% and investment by as much as 18%. The UK Treasury would have £40 billion more each year if Britain had remained in the EU. Devastating self-immolation.

In a way it's kind of funny that the govt thinks it's ok to just, immediately after local body elections, announce that the regional govts we voted for are for the chop, and the people we elected as city and district mayors are going to have different jobs to the one we just voted them into.

One thing that NZers need to understand is that going for 100% completion on the original Rogernomics agenda is not a reversible thing. We will need to transform all this wreckage into something new. We can't just "rebuild", as has been proven many times over.

Fascinating analysis - TL:DR the need for two incomes to meet the costs of housing result in childcare costs & therefore the need to run two cars. All up this mean the level of income just to stand still is US140,000 pa, way above the supposed poverty line which uses an outdated measure.
This is a fabulous read. The figures might be specific to the USA, but the principle applies wherever neocapitalism has been applied. Read it, and feel it in your bones.
Mike Green is writing some amazing stuff at the moment. It's not in the delta, it's in the level and the cost structure. Read this and you will understand Angrynomics on a new level: www.yesigiveafig.com/p/part-1-my-...

Hmmm. Takapuna Grammar, Belmont Intermediate, Devonport Primary and Vauxhall Primary Schools together with St Leos do not yet appear to have made this commitment.
Great interactive resource here from Tania Waikato / Chris Abercrombie of schools that have publicly committed to giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Locally, I'm disappointed Fairfield Intermediate, Fairfield Primary & Woodstock aren't listed yet.
