H has just be served the first part of an article from the Telegraph where someone wearing a £135 scarf in their large second house is complaining they ‘can’t afford to run their Aga due to their £400 electric bill’. Just bizarre.

Slate in a wooden frame - filed away, I’ve not seen one like this, before. In loving memory of Olive Emma, daughter of Tom & Emma Witt, died 10 June 1896, aged 6 years. For of such is the kingdom of Heaven. x

Well done! Dulce de calabaza (ayote en miel) isn’t the most attractive dish, but the flavour is fabulously autumnal. Sweet, spicy, and very evocative of Todos los Santos and Día de los Difuntos/Muertos when it is traditionally served.

(Thank you to @sloeginpudding.bsky.social for the suggestion!)

...And yes, I have felt properly Hallowe'eny filling the kitchen with the smell of autumnal spices as the pumpkin caramelised in the cauldron!
