It's the prerequisite level the best UK universities recruit at for postgraduate degrees.

Yes I suppose it was a genuine conceptual element of Warhol's work - and perhaps it explains the erosion of Hirst's reputation, where it feels more nakedly instrumental.
telecasper.bsky.social
But hasn't the commercial face of the art market digested this contradiction post-Warhol, Koons, Hirst etc. by allowing the figure of the artist to become a brand in itself? Even reproduction doesn't seem to present an obstacle.

Pamuk's My Name Is Red is poorly disguised rip-off of The Name Of The Rose.

I can’t express how dually maddening and affirming it is to have spent years reading philosophy and theory trying to make sense of myself, my politics and my place in the universe as our leaders get worked by dickheads who believe they’ve cracked the code by abusing amphetamines and watching anime.

They’re morons, they’re just dickheads who accidentally struck it rich by chance, not by merit, and this system does not give a fuck about the ability or morality of the idiots who relentlessly quest to amass as much money as possible

I assume that was 9pm rather than 9am, or else you were doing some epic sessions!

The sort of epistemological naiveté you wouldn't even accept from an undergraduate.

Matthew Syed, who recently wrote a long read about why he just joined the Conservatives, objected to his BBC introduction including this fact: "Yes, I just joined the Conservatives, but I still see myself, first and foremost, as an objective journalist, if I may say so."

Phew! Glad that's settled.

I think the combination of a looming AI bubble burst, and clustered governance/economic crises in the US will throw bond markets into a tailspin well before that.

This is it. STEM is incredibly useful as a set of subjects but the market cannot bear more graduates. Humanities and social science graduates are in demand because of their wide skills base and adaptability.

Universities are engines for levelling up many post-industrial areas of the UK. This statement from Starmer shows how seriously he and the party take that.

Imagine having natural charisma like that! But it helps that the music and words are really very good in themselves.

Saw him a while back here in London, and it was amazing. Like a church sermon, but we all danced.

The British understanding of the benefits of multilinguality remains poor - quelle surprise!

Katie Lam says there are some schools in London "where 3/4 pupils don't speak English to the standard needed to for education"

Are there? London school results are outperforming everywhere else, partly + migration/diversity effects

Yesterday 250.000 people assembled in Amsterdam to protest the complicity of the Dutch government with the genocide in Gaza. This amounts to 1.4% of the country's entire population. We were there to show our solidarity with the Palestinians, but this massive turn-out also conveys something else.

A human flood in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam, in support of Gaza and in condemnation of the ongoing Israeli starvation and aggression.

Grimly funny, especially given that the rest of London Fields turns into Glastonbury when the weather is halfway decent.

Interesting point. I think the Wire eventually includes that patriarchal element into its critique. Breaking Bad on the other hand is just cliffhangers wrapped around a moral quandary.
