Forty years ago MLB teams opened their books to an independent economist and were proven to be lying liars who lied.

Until they open their books that way again, let that be your default assumption about any claims they — and their media water carriers — make about their finances.

Going to need some pretty miraculous play to beat Detroit without Queta. Oof.
Per the Celtics, Neemias Queta is OUT for tomorrow’s game against the Pistons.

Neemias Queta - Left Ankle Sprain - OUT

Jayson Tatum - Right Achilles Repair - OUT

How Oregon’s Data Center Boom Is Supercharging a Water Crisis

Amazon has come to the state’s eastern farmland, worsening a water pollution problem that’s been linked to cancer and miscarriages.

Don't listen to Keith. I've seen him fly *multiple* times!
there is zero chance the Yankees failed to turn a profit in any year, but especially in 2025 when they were coming off a World Series appearance. If an MLB owner says he lost money, that's like me saying I can fly. You should insist on proof.

(I can't fly, just so no one asks me to demonstrate.)

I’m trying to understand what the hardest thing in sports actually is.

So I went to explore NASCAR, where the legendary @jimmiejohnson.bsky.social showed me how this world really works.

And then I drove a race car myself.

Doing the "Stranger Things" rewatch, and my daughter made a really good point. Hawkins High shouldn't be the Tigers. They should be the Hawkins High Hawks. I mean, it was right there for them.

I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

Too many unforced errors, and far too many of them can be chalked up to Joe Mazzulla's stubbornness. At some point, you have to guard the *only* player on the other team producing offense a little differently.

Terrance Mann has now flopped three times. He's drawn a charge on each one. It would be great if the refs noticed (not holding my breath), but JB sure as hell should have.

When Mazzulla did his wholesale subbing at 6:43, C's were up 43-41. C's didn't score fit the next 1:32, and completely lost their rhythm. Nets outscored them 21-10 after the wholesale change. I'm begging Mazzulla to please stop doing stupid shit like that.

He's doing exactly what he was hired to do.

I haven't talked about it much on here, but the Patel confirmation was the moment when my campaign began.

His appointment was a five-alarm fire, but Dems reacted like he was just another conservative they kinda disagreed with.
New from me:
Kash Patel is engaged in purges, removal of real accountability, and impunity for loyalists at the FBI.
Researchers told me that these are the exact patterns that create abusive national security organizations under authoritarianism. 🧵

I was wondering why Gmail was letting more spam emails into my inbox, and then they dropped in an ad on top of my inbox promising to get rid of phishing emails if I paid for some extra security feature. I'm pretty stupid, but I'm not THAT stupid. Hustle someone else.

Deaton & the Mass GOP apparently weren't impressed.

They're happy to skip the voters - as long as the check is big enough.

Amazing play. Completely ruined by this turning off the lights BS. Are the Red Sox responsible for this? Because I hated it when they did it too. Not only is it stupid - if I'm there, I paid to WATCH the game, which I can't do if you TURN THE LIGHTS OFF - but someone is going to get seriously hurt.
Had it all the way.

Not the point here, but it's so telling that Amazon is held up as the thing to strive toward, rather than a mom and pop store. The Joker was right - all these people care about is money.
I asked Grok if Elon Musk would be better than Jeffrey Epstein at running a private island. Here's part of its answer.

Not enough attention is being given to the fact that the Rockets have the best offense in league history. It's also the weirdest.

-Dead last in 3-point attempt rate
-No. 1 by a mile in offensive rebound rate

Mashing their way to points while eschewing 3's.

Mo'ne Davis spent years telling people that she was done playing baseball. She did not want to be forever defined by what she did as a 13-year-old in Little League, a decade ago, and she did not feel like there was space for her to do much else. And then she felt differently. On Davis and the WPBL:
Mo’ne Davis Is Finally Ready to Play Baseball Again
