when MLB dropped "diversity" from its career site, I reached out to every team, including those with live DEI pages.

None committed to their current efforts. Almost nobody responded!

One week before Jackie Robinson Day, my take on the leaguewide silence:

www.miamiherald.com/opinion/arti...
Most MLB teams have DEI programs. Why won’t any commit to them or talk about it? | Opinion
In the Trump era, when even Jackie Robinson is at risk, the sport is quiet about diversity efforts it used to tout. | Opinion

Remember how Tim McOsker fought to have LA28 split sailing events across into two venues, Port of LA and Long Beach, so the city of LA could "benefit" from the games?

No one mentioned the part where local kids would lose their waterfront access for the next three years
Port of LA to evict long-running Cabrillo Beach Scout camp for Olympic sailing facility
Scout troops and Cub Scout packs have regularly used the grounds for nearly 80 years. They’re being kicked out at the end of the month so it can become a waterfront training center.

New from me!

Late in the 2025 season, MLB sent a memo to players warning that investing in baseball "predictive markets" like Kalshi and Robinhood violated its gambling policy. Over at @frontofficesports.bsky.social, I dig into the ongoing legal debate around what even constitutes a sports bet.
MLB Sent Memo to Players in August About Kalshi, Polymarket
In a letter to players obtained by FOS, the league warned that its rules against gambling on baseball also apply to prediction markets.

insane local news just dropped. i've lived in a part of KC for ~decade and it's been an inside joke with friends and service workers that the local biz/party district is ran by a cartel of biz owners who bully out new ventures and replace them with generic dive bars for white suburbanites.

If I ever do get to toss people out of the Baseball Hall of Fame (per the subtitle of my 2017 book), Judge Landis and Cap Anson (he of the “Gentlemen’s Agreement”) are two of the first to have their plaques melted down for their outsized roles in segregating the game
Also revisited the 1919 Black Sox scandal, which I learned caused no discernible harm to MLB’s business, just its image in the eyes of press. The first commissioner punished the Black Sox while enforcing a far worse violation of competitive integrity. frontofficesports.com/gambling-isn...

Landis’ racism is one of those things that is ignored by the worst historical accounts of the Black Sox but even the “better” histories of it sorta mention it but mostly gloss over it (I’ve seen the Ruth suspension mischaracterized in multiple accounts)

Online sports betting might be killing your marriage, GPA and 401k. But is a clear social contagion killing sports, in any sense?

I wrote about the wave of betting scandals with insights from the 1919 Black Sox, the end-times Oakland A’s, and endlessly refreshing my Tankathon tab.
Tanking Is Hurting Pro Sports More Than Gambling Ever Could
Gambling isn’t killing pro sports, our guest columnist writes. The multiplying scandals are just part of a much deeper problem.

On one hand, I read that having two subway conductors on every train could cost New York taxpayers over $200 mil a year.

OTOH, without subway conductors would we have wouldn’t have legendary hip hop producer Conductor Williams, or his iconic CONDUCTOR tag on Rome Streetz tracks.
MTA union quietly turned to Albany in push for 2 staffers on every train
State lawmakers quietly passed a bill in June that would block the MTA from running trains with just drivers.
