I get about ~7 tokens per second running gpt-oss on my 24-thread Xeon with a 6GB nVidia GPU. I have to imagine that I'd get much better speeds on that Tesla P40 I was given, and had no use for until now.

I still think the AI industry must and will collapse. I still hate every one of those capitalist motherfuckers.

I just need something good to come out of this debacle. Some useful tool, some widget or gewgaw I can say “so it wasn’t a total loss, even if it was mostly bad”.

I’m so sick of right wingers whingeing about Star Trek. It was never theirs, never for them, so why do they even care?

half the userbase of this website is addicted to the dopamine hit that comes with "all is loss" bad news. they want to spiral out and resent you when you tell them something tethered to reality.

Here’s the thing about “fair use”. It overrides license terms, be it GPL or MIT or proprietary license, fair use still applies. A new license won’t keep your code out of an LLM’s training data.

We are looking at what's happening in Minneapolis as an example of how weak this federal government actually is. They are using the tactics of terrorism because they do not have the numbers, and they know that.

They want to make sure as few people realize that as possible. Don't help them.

Listen those 2A folks better start making some noise right now if they want me to believe they were serious.

Okay. So the AI bubble bursts. It’s no longer financially viable to provide LLMs as a service. Okay. But the actual tech still exists. What do I, as a coder, need to own in that world to run something like ChatGPT or Claude locally?

I would not hand a soldering iron to a four year old. I would not let a meth head rummage in my chemicals cabinet. I would not allow someone who can't balance his own accounts to fuck with my databases.

This is a post about "generative AI".

I still think 99% of the AI hype is old bollocks. I’m no convert.

Dialectical materialism and its applications in the use and regulation of "generative AI".

Not a subject I have enough coffee in me to tackle today.

I would really like to know what training data was used by ChatGPT, that let it generate a working SID tracker engine, for the Commodore 64, in C11, that met every requirement I could name, right down to code style notes, digis, sfx on voice 3, etc, while making the code legible and comprehensible.

Scott Adams painted a picture of the corporate workplace as stupid and inefficient, designed to crush the souls of everyone.

That he ended up a vocal supporter of a billionaire idiot president and being overtly racist was a betrayal. Another body of work burned to ash by its creator.

RIP I guess.

Scott Adams will be remembered for his famous comic Dilbert by some, but most will remember him for this:

The missing part of Scott Adams' story, the way it's usually told, is that he didn't "stumble into" either Dilbert or his later "manfluencer" life path. He was always that guy, and he pursued both strategically and cynically. He did management training, followed the Dale Carnegie program, etc...

MAGA is indeed a serious problem, but the existence of the institution is also a serious problem.

We should not abide the existence of a "law enforcement" department which kidnaps US citizens because they're brown or have accents. We should not abide the existence of those who say "papers please"

Man, if I stumble into making tens of millions of dollars I hope I have the good sense to shut the fuck up and build a bunch of libraries and fund food banks so when I check out peoples first response isn’t “So, that asshole’s done.”

The bar. It is SO LOW.

They say you should only speak good of the dead. Scott Adams is dead. Good.

Well, that was a productive day. I got sprite multiplexing more or less working. That's something I never managed before.

I also played with SID interfacing, but I'm not musical enough to really understand that.

That's better. There was that bug where it lost track of what it was doing with the X MSB at the bottom, but that seems to be fixed now.
