The chip in this datasheet is unobtanium. Does anyone know of a more obtainable alternative other than a simple 4-bit binary counter, that can be safely connected to 5V CMOS CD4000 series logic?

My other idea for breaking out of the Harvard arch is to introduce a fetch-execute cycle, using a two-phase, non-overlapping clock, such as this one I just threw together.

My development process is a cycle: I first let my brain essentially pee wherever it wants, coming up with whatever ideas it can. Then I spend a little time on each one that interests me, examining them for practicality and cost. Then I cull, keeping only the best of them. Then I repeat the cycle.

Ive been doing a bunch of stuff with cheap modern-ish PC hardware with a lot of Linux and Gaming stuff.
Random FB Marketplace/CEX hardware - that kinda thing.
Are ppl interested in seeing this?
I could be tempted to bust out the camera again.
Certainly wouldnt be anything flash.

You see how this shit balloons on you? This isn't even a beginning of a design yet.

Trying to work this out with precious little idea what I'm doing. Basically what it's supposed to be is a clock source that can be halted and single stepped. U1 is just a contact bounce eliminator. U2 is a monostable multivibrator.

I enjoy the 4000 series of CMOS logic. They feel like an artifact of a parallel universe.

How could I not be intrigued by the kind of extremely small instruction set the MC14500B implements?

Impostor syndrome like a motherfucker today. And worse I know damn well it's codswallop. So what I don't know all the answers to how to do something I want to do, learning is the point.

@nil everyone wants wayland to replace x but no one seems to want to do the accessibility work to make that happen... frankly basic tools that have long existed on x havent been ported to wayland at all in the 5 years since i switched to sway

I’ve just been informed that not permitting scientific misinformation on my feed, including claims that SARS-CoV-2 is airborne HIV, is “tone policing”.

It’s actually fact-checking. I don’t give a shit who is posting misinformation or why. Zero tolerance.

So many things in retro I want to do:

- Play with the MC14500B
- Finally finish my Z180 build and play with that
- Get my C64U and put up a series of asm programming tutorials on PeerTube and YouTube
- After Stallman finally fucking dies, maybe get back to improving GNUstep

Outside of our childhood spheres, the 80s were straight-up dogshit when you actually look at the history, what with Thatcherism thoroughly dismantling everything to make the rich richer and the poor poorer, and we're still suffering from it today.

lol I was a 2000's kid.

I have so many good memories of the decade, but I also have come to realize a lot of that was because I was a kid who was very much isolated from the worst of the world (even lucky enough to skimp around the '08 recession, something a lot of families couldn't achieve).

Of course it feels like the 90s were better, you were 12. Most of us had no responsibilities, few worries, and relatively lots of free time. We were actively expected to spend time playing. Of course it seems like it was better

90s Daytime TV in the US literally led to the fascism we are grappling with now. Breeding ground of reactionary right wing thought that reinforced stereotypes and cheered on hate, and like right-wing rage bait today, was mostly completely fake.

I think it’s just - like I think back to those times and it’s like yeah I miss renting games and just flat out owning something if I bought it too, or that sense of discovery when playing these games for the first time…

… I also don’t miss the virulent homophobia and transphobia and other shit.

People conflate "I was a child" with "the world was better" all the damn time and it's embarrassing.

Thinking back to some of the nostalgiaslop I've read this year about the 90s being an oasis of peace and calm in what people did and enjoyed without social media; are they trying to gaslight people into forgetting that stuff like Jerry Springer existed, where millions of people tuned...
