Major evolution in the GZDoom community tonight - the regular contributors finally had enough of the project lead, who had been very hard to work with for a long time. He dug in and told them "If you don't like it, go and make your own fork."

UZDoom is now live here.

This is a super down-the-line thought, but I had an intriguing idea: coming up with my own palette and making a pixel art driven set in the style of Mega Man Legends / The Misadventures of Tron Bonne. I need to practice raw pixel art, and I just love how bright and bubbly those games are. 🤔

I need to test myself and try some vastly different themes in future packs, I think. I like working with palettes, but I'm also pretty tired of Quake's at the moment, so something much different there too...

Absolutely psyched for Zortch 2. That demo felt like playing Serious Sam for the first time, being wowed by matcap reflections and ludicrous particle effects.

Thank you for my favorite input tutorial message of all time, Zortch 2

They say don't listen to your thoughts after 9pm or whatever, but if you're up all night what time do you start listening again 🤔

Oh no I stayed up until 5 am again thinking about the future, day's ruined

Green = played (not necessarily finished)
Yellow = knew of / looked at / probably decided I could something better with my time
White = not on my radar but probably is now

Clearly been slacking. Cool list.

If you're looking for something to play, here's a list of 40 abysmal shovelware FPS games from the Doom Clone era.

Thinking about dabbling with little vector packs, I used to wrok with 'em a fair bit as a signwriter. What's the most common format game engines work with these days? SVG?
strideh.bsky.social
I know an awful lot of it came from stock packs, but those packs are really deliberately designed and you often wonder just where the hell that sound comes from.
strideh.bsky.social
Yeah I've thought about that a bit, and I don't quite know how to put it. Like as fidelity has gone up and things sound more real and rooted in the world, they've also started sounding less memorable. It's really good sound work, but something fanciful and deliberately designed can hit much better.

I know most devs, smartly, would never actually want to try it in a modern game, but I LOVE old game soundtracks and SFX being compressed to 96 or 128 kbps. It's like picking up audio transmissions from another plane of existence. Shit's spiritual to me.

I totally missed the sale but I'm buying it full price because of these pics

who'd have thought that supporting the people who make your favourite music, tv shows, books, movies, videogames, jewelry, costumes, paintings, sculpture, etc ... would pay off?

who'd have thought they were valuable members of society all this time??

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

That's NES yeah? I'd actually love to try something much more retro than even Quake someday.

Honestly hate having a 'product', but a guy's gotta eat. That's why I want to keep the rules as basic as possible - just credit and don't resell my stuff. Make and sell anything you want with 'em!
strideh.bsky.social
Just FYI I have updated the wording on one licensing rule on my assets based on feedback from @kenney.nl. It's the same rule, it should just worded more clearly that you can sell a product made with the help of my textures, just please don't sell the textures themselves as a product. Legalese... 🙃

I was trying to be clear about reselling them as asset packs, you can absolutely use them in sold, commercial games. I will work on making that clearer.
