It's been so long that all I could really remember were the incredible creatures, and I'm sure teenage me really didn't get the bigger picture, but damn Pan's Labyrinth hits like a gut punch today.

Crimson Peak rewatch tonight. Think this is destined to be a film I like, but also accept is stuck between being a traditional tale and a slightly too nod and winky take. His love of gothic windows never fails, though.

Some other angles. The lighting has been in all sorts of different states so it's kind of between looks atm. Been bouncing around colours trying to echo the look of 70s pulp sci-fi and films like Outland. But I feel I ended up drifting too far away from brutalism.

Frankenstein doesn't seem like it's coming to my local cinema, so I'm catching up on Del Toro films I've missed/wanna revisit. Started with The Shape of Water last night and, damn, cinema.

So at this stage I won't be completing this for QBJ3, just far too burned out, but hey this is what I was chipping away at in my spare time. A massive retro brutalist solar-hydro facility. It might look pretty far along but this was like 4 art-tested rooms of 40. I got a bit excited blocking it out.

Still very WIP / missing textures, but I've been going against the grain this week. Practicing high res materials in substance designer and modern scene workflow for a change. ORM maps can stuff it.

Reposting an old reply to an old scene (😉). I too would love to work with this style, but stencil shadows are apparently a bit of an incompatible art, or just a very difficult one, when it comes to modern engines.
