i've played 2 newly released HL mods in the last few weeks that unpleasantly surprised me with AI voices and it makes me so sad.
the voice acting in Verho is noticeably amateur but it gives the game so much more personality. so often what feels like "flaws" end up being enjoyable elements of a work

Another example is Verho: Curse of Faces, which early on in development they were going to be using AI voices, but then decided to hire voice actors instead. Which again, is excellent, more of that please. Turns out, even if you do dabble with AI, you can just hire artists and actors like a boss!

haven't played the full version of this yet but the demo was very fun. really solid "key hunting" style retro fps, def recommend checking it out!
