Hello there,

I like to make games the hard way using C and OpenGL. Right now I'm trying to ship this boomer shooter before I've spent a decade rewriting it over and over.

Social media hasn't worked out all that well for me so far, maybe this time will be different?

Needed to take a break from the crunch to do some art practice. Coloring was done with watered-down acrylic inks and black tea (the latter in many layers). I sketched the pose but the face is modeled on Neri from @trueref.bsky.social

I get that it has a poor opening, but anyone who still thinks Daikatana is the "worst game ever" definitely hasn't played it. There's some really cool stuff going on in that game, and the worst parts have mostly been fixed by fan patches.
Really? This whole time I thought it was because it was an OpenGL port of ZDoom, and everything in OpenGL uses that gl* prefix. Maybe that's just how he managed to sneak it in!
I've got to try this sometime. I love making tabletop terrain and this is the same skillset!
I now wonder if they also did their textures from sculpted tablets just like in GC?
Took a detour to add some frustum culling, there was literally no occlusion checking at all before. Just culling out offscreen debris and enemy animation blending has made enough of a difference for my aging machine to still manage 144Hz for all the important encounters. #screenshotsaturday #gamedev

Ctesiphon is partly a forever-home for a handful of maps I made in Quake 3 and UT2004 many years ago. This here is my high-school masterpiece, the Fortress of Baal. I'm blocking out its new incarnation as a casino, making the final map of the game before the final boss fight on the roof. #gamedev
I like that idea. I can't do it this year but I ought to next time.
I've just uploaded a new demo build to Steam and Itch containing the third level. For now I expect this to be the last update to the demo before release. Autosaves made in v1.01 will let you continue where you left off.

Did a refactor of the audio system today and added a proper association between sound clips and source entities such that staggering, killing, or gibbing an enemy can interrupt sound effects they've spawned. #gamedev #indiedev
I totally didn't design around playing this with a controller, so as a compromise there's an option for aim-assist when using one. Just done by sending out some detection rays like in classic Doom. #gamedev #indiedev
I can't add any new options to the pause menu after this though or I'll have to put in a scrollbar when in 720p and that would be ridiculous.
I'm a bit late for Screenshot Saturday, but I've put together a much-requested feature. This screen will log any important dialog in the level so you can go back and re-read it in case it came up in the middle of a firefight. #gamedev #indiedev
