I almost bought a brand new Recognitions pinball but it turned out to be a forgery

It was wild when Armies of the Night head-butted the Myra Breckinridge machine

Dumb question: Have any BOOKS ever had a licensed pinball? Not movie or tv adaptations of books- an actual prose novel licensed as a theme for a pinball game.

Editors looking for queer coming of age stories, you should check out these sample pages of a potential memoir from @terryblas.bsky.social! I would love to read the whole book (a closeted Mormon teen serving his mission in NYC post 9/11 and eventually coming out)!!!

I just want to tell stories, and it's awful feeling like you're being kept from doing that. Anyway, here's the pages if you want to see them. I guess somebody should. 18/?

You know what keeps @ohjoysextoy.bsky.social funded and paying comic creators for their original work on sex, sexuality, gender, and being a human?

Our readers.

The regular systems that financially support small businesses are cut off to us. Our readers are everything

God I love drawing this guy. And Swamp Thing is fun to draw, too.

This piece is available in the Helioscope etsy shop, along with Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen, and Underground, and many, many books and pictures written and drawn by other folks in the studio!

I frequently say you don't need to protest. You don't! There are a thousand other ways to push back on fascism if protesting doesn't feel comfortable or safe for you!

But if you CAN go, this 10/18 #NoKings thing is really a key protest to participate in. Be part of it, friends.

NO KINGS, y'all! October 18! Find a rally near you and GO!

nokings.org
Graphic with a cartoon bald eagle carrying an upside-down crown over a banner reading "NO KINGS." Now in glorious color with a bit of 35mm film clouds at sunset as the background. NO KINGS logo and nokings.org URL at bottom right.

Took one last trip to the Powells Books on Hawthorne and @leiladelduca.bsky.social noticed they highlighted my book with a little blurb! I’m honored 🥹 #LivingHell #DarkHorseComics

Not really. There are a few I know I would’ve enjoyed working on , but nothing that really eats at me. I do wish I’d spent time writing my own stories at the start of my career, and built up some confidence as a writer.

Do you have a white whale project? Something that you knew was being solicited for creatives to join onto that you really wanted to do, but for whatever reason you couldn’t do it?
stevelieberart.bsky.social
It varies from project to project. I tend to get hired for niche projects that don’t come with a lot of embedded expectations, so I usually have a lot of freedom. And if I’m doing a fill-in in someone else’s run, I’ll try to match what they’re doing, or at least play in the same key. #lieberAMA

When you get a job to draw a comic book, how much real creative control do you typically get when working with established characters?

NGL, delegating work with art can be confounding. But coming up as an assistant to a pro artist is invaluable experience, it helps the artist make the deadline/keep work coming, and it leapfrogs the assistant through skills, it's a win-win.
stevelieberart.bsky.social
These days I don’t have to take jobs where I can’t comfortably hit the deadline, so I haven’t had to deploy many tricks. But hiring assistants has always worked well. I know a lot of terrific artists and I’ve learned how to incorporate what they do into what I do pretty seamlessly.

What's your weirdest trick to meet deadlines?

I’d also add, even if you’re living cheaply/with family, focus on making your own comics rather than trying to get publishers to hire you on spec and hope.
I made 2 webcomics and that got me an invitation to co-create Divalicious for a Tokyopop competition. Rest is history.

One classmate asked what we were all thinking: “Did you…uh…”
“Did we bang?”
“Yeah.”
He looked carefully at the photo, took a long draw on his unfiltered Lucky Strike, and said “Christ I hope so.”

At school Tex, 75, rough-voiced gave me his “swipe file” -his midcentury archive of 1000s of reference photos. Going thru it w/him & classmates, we found a stack of posed b&w kodak photos from 1950 of an impossibly gorgeous dancer.
