The president is using this apparent family tragedy, which as far as we know had absolutely nothing to do with him, to convey the message that if his fans brutally murder his critics, they will receive his support and approval.
Q: A number of Republicans have denounced your statement on Rob Reiner. Do you stand by it?

TRUMP: Well, I wasn't a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned.

Q: A number of Republicans have denounced your statement on Truth Social after the murder of Rob Reiner. Do you stand by that post?

Trump: Well, I wasn't a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned. So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all in any way, shape or form.

My favorite King adaptation, artfully brought to the screen by Reiner & Goldman, is elevated by a terrifying career best turn from Bates that earns every bit of her Oscar. It’s a film that scared me to death growing up but has strangely turned into a comfort movie for me.

It’s the crown jewel of Castle Rock: a courtroom drama elevated to blockbuster status via the palpable, on-screen energy from Nicholson & Cruise in a capital M, movie star clash of the titans. Reiner sharply harnesses the super charged Sorkin script & gives us a modern classic.

This undeniable return to form for Rob Reiner managed be both a light commentary on Clinton era politics & a charming example of old Hollywood romance between Douglas & Bening. Aaron Sorkin is essentially soft launching The West Wing here and what results is a modern classic.

feels like a pretty obvious layup for Democrats to say, "this is an egregiously disgusting statement, even for him, and it underlines that the President is undergoing significant physical and mental deterioration, and either he is lying about it or is not aware of it."

Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

He's also responsible for raising all the money that paid for bringing Hollingsworth v. Perry & even more importantly Bostic v. Schaefer, which created the circuit split that forced SCOTUS to take on Obergefell v. Hodges. The role he played in American marriage equality cannot be overstated.
The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

One of my all-time favorite clips of Rob Reiner, from his Friars Club Roast in 2000, as he reads aloud Roger Ebert's infamous scathing review of his movie North. The man had an amazing sense of humor about himself. RIP.

Rob Reiner was a good guy. He made a lot of movies about good guys, in worlds where not everyone was good and you didn’t have to be good. He made movies about people trying. He was angry, as many hopeful people are. He knew the world could be better and he wanted it to be. His death is devastating.

Part of the fun of these kinds of illustrations in context is the janky, home made feel of the graphics. Having them be “photorealistic” is boring. Let’s hope The Daily Show/John Oliver/The Onion do not follow suit.
SNL used AI art tonight, multiple times.

Booooooo.

A (quite) young movie lover said to me recently, "Not everybody can afford a DVD player," and I said "How much do you think a DVD player costs?"

He said, "I don't know, like $500?"

Those of us who advocate physical media are maybe not doing the best job of messaging.
