It's kind of a *perfect example* of a Farscape episode, isn't it?

Meanwhile, Rygel loses his mind when he realizes that we just let anyone who wants to buy the addictive drug called "sugar" and goes on a massive candy bender. That's such a great episode.

This is a good and correct take. One reason I loved the mass-market paperback is that all but the most lengthy ones could fit in a coat pocket!

the physical dimensions a book is published in is a limiting factor in people's ability to read it while commuting. I'm surprised more people don't admit this. I got a kindle so i could read longer/larger books.

I cancelled my Paramount+ subscription, and made it clear that it's because of the company currying favor with Trump and installing Weiss as head of CBS news. I'll miss streaming Star Trek shows, but the values Star Trek taught me means I can't support a company that enables fascism.

I love how Lois is so put out by the whole thing - like, "I'm a serious investigative journalist, Perry, and you assign me this Hollywood fluff piece?!" - while Clark is obviously hurt that he's not the one getting the fun acting lessons.

Since I see posts talking about the Garlic book again, the stunt is doing its job, a reminder: Countess does not smell like Trinidadian food but it will make you want to eat Trinidadian food.

Which SFFH books make you hungry?

Anyway, that's a common impression of method acting, and that's my point. Hollywood jerks have turned an entire school of acting with a rich intellectual tradition into ego-driven macho posturing about being an asshole at all times on set. I read enough Stanislavsky to know that's nonsense.
stephengm.bsky.social
Nothing directly, it's just that Jared Leto has a lot of allegations of really unpleasant behavior, including on-set behavior partly due to his take on method acting. So a lot of people feel a touch of schadenfreude when a movie he's in fails. And it brings up method acting in the Discourse.

The box office failure of the new TRON has people talking about Jared Leto and his abusive "Method" acting again, and it always makes me sad when their understanding of the Method is based on that sad, macho-posturing caricature of Stanislavsky, Adler, and Strasburg's techniques and teaching.

I feel like you write one, two, maybe even three kinky nurse novels for the money. But four? That's not a gig anymore, it's a vocation.

To be clear, this is bad! But it's bad because Trump's coziness with an authoritarian petrostate will foster more corruption, bad foreign policy decisions, and human rights abuses in the Gulf. Not because they're going to use Qatari jets as proxies to attack Canada or domestic political opponents.
stephengm.bsky.social
My friend, please don't rely on the AI summary, it's so often wrong! There are Canadian, British, German, Dutch, miscellaneous NATO member, and Singaporean military personnel stationed at US bases right now. Some in dedicated facilities they operate themselves. This is not a secret Qatari invasion.
stephengm.bsky.social
I believe some do. The training programs vary in how they're organized but my understanding is that some countries do have their own dedicated facilities on existing US bases - mostly NATO countries but Singapore has one on the same US air base Qatar will be using.

Since WW2 to one degree or another, but the deeper integration you're probably thinking of since NORAD was established in the 50s!

And honestly, if the Americans really want to attack us, they're not going to outsource the job to the Qataris.
stephengm.bsky.social
Respectfully, you're overthinking this. It sounds like this is a training facility so Qatari pilots can get trained on US-bought planes. The US trains all kinds of foreign militaries and paramilitaries at bases on their soil all the time. This is just Trump's corrupt coziness with Qatar again.
