Mental illness is mortifying bc it's like. Yeah I've been committing myself to some pretty major work recently. Yeah it's one of the biggest moments of my life I'm reintegrating the bathroom sink into the world that touches me. Soon I intend to integrate a world that folds in all sinks

Btw I went to urgent care and they ran every test and my results are that all of my organs are doing such a good job. and my phlebotomist literally told me for real, in real life, that that was the funniest and most fun blood draw they've ever done. they actually gave me a good grade

Kitkat helped me get some of the worst muscle knots to calm down and I still do HAVE a headache, but a much more normal headache, which implies to me that the brain fog is??? separate??? from the headache???? no???? absolutely not, fuck off?????

And the folks who are actually writing full-time generally only got there after years of day jobs, family support, or both.
The point of sharing this is not to demoralize anyone, but to let emerging writers know they're not failing if they can't make a living off writing alone. Almost no one can.

almost every novelist you read who's not from the airport fiction or bestseller sections is working a full on day job, including multi-award winners and absolute legends, or they have a spouse or trust that supports them. virtually across the board. just normalize in your mind that's how it works.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.
