Yesterday I shifted back to 5Ks as the regular run distance because extra running does make strength training really hard/impossible to fit in and it’s something I really value now.
The thing that got my 5ks to sub 30 mins as a regular pace was running 5 miles and training to keep all of mile 3 and 4 at pace, then using mile 5 as cool down. Honestly, I also think pacing on a treadmill made the transition faster. I’m self trained so I’m just passing on personal lessons.

No one in the GOP Hitler chat was a "kid," JD Vance. We checked.

By scanning public records and media reports, Mother Jones determined the ages of eight of the 11 participants in the abhorrent leaked texts from young Republicans that Politico covered on Tuesday: They appear to range from 24 to 35.
It’s about the training journey, muscle memory and setting goals. Sometimes it’s also about the knowledge of what inactivity does to our bodies and the confidence to know that self love does include investing in fitness and nutrition. We do our best, we put one foot in front of the other. That’s 🏆
My joke was
“now we have a place to sleep in the moving truck”
You are twins too right? Stoked to see my twin bro during our move. He’s got a running path outside his place in Sparks/Reno so it might be my only run on the road as we move this weekend.
Hubby sent this to me while I get my hair done probably the last time for 4-6 months once the move happens this week. It’s a chaise lounge. We’re getting closer & closer to being back to coastal living, coastal food & daily outdoor running. We have a sofa & 2 chaise lounges we never fully connected

Los Angeles County voted to declare a state of emergency in response to federal ICE raids. Normally reserved for natural disasters, the declaration allows the county to mobilize resources and offer assistance to residents impacted by the raids.

The move allows the L.A. County Board of Supervisors to provide rent relief for tenants who have fallen behind as a result of the crackdown on immigrants.

#5KADay 499 #running 8 km 46:10 yesterday keeping pacing even to calm bladder. Aging & stress are weird. Also closed out 14-day applefitness challenge for 14.01 running/walking every day. Good positioning for upcoming disruption from moving/relocation nearly upon us #Runchat #Runsky #fitsky
I’ll think about it 🥰 So much going on to consider this season.
I’ve not had the heart to try any flavors, so yes, vanilla-bourbon is an easy hard pass. I noticed some of brands do this exact flavor and I don’t get it.
Vega seems to still be excellent in containing safe levels of lead, while other similarly expensive vegan protein brands had much higher mcg of lead per serving.
obviously not purely a volume issue based on the lead mcg testing outcomes by brand & vegan:vegan. When I used Vega it was produced in New Zealand, I think it’s now produced in CAN. Just like I don’t eat bagged lettuce, if CA peas are high in lead, we don’t need CA peas. Lots of options for US crops
When whole food products go untested by the FDA b/c it still wants to claim a food product is not a food product - out the testing outcomes point to malicious on the manufacturer for consumer safety- it’s not a food panic, it’s a call for the manufacturers to answer to transparency.
A review of the outcomes by brand & protein per serving don’t bear that out as true. There was a range of ~17 grams to 60 grams of protein per serving and lead present from barely trace to a week’s worth of mcg in 3 servings, some of the highest formulations were only trace. This is a quality issue.
The issue with lead in water and other basic pollution is definitely deplorable and I agree with that 💯 %
Some of what we see from China and baby formula is contamination from many factors, including packaging. U.S. producers can get really lazy without oversight and given the high cost of most protein powders, they can do better. Some are doing great, so it seems like a standards issue at production.
The lead is a contaminate that should be removed/reduced and not an oopsie, especially for how expensive these protein food products are. Since this isn’t X I added on honest discourse to the perspective that lead just being in stuff, doesn’t make it ok to be high in a food product.
Nice distance & pacing 😊
When I did vegan protein powder- before I learned it’s one of my chronic migraine triggers- I used the Vega brand. It was on the very low side and is high quality. I’m trying to find info on my organic whey powder.
Consumer Reports just released newer coverage on this topic and I was seeking out some related content.
Some brands have such minuscule amounts that there’s no way it’s completely arbitrary. Nice try tho.
Looks like the Dymatize brand is excellent, didn’t see the other one.
Yeah, so now I have to research about lead content apparently. Wish I knew about this when I had my blood labs done in early August. I have between 1 and 2 servings a day of Simply Tera’s Organic. Anyway wanted to share - bsky.app/profile/unlo...
this does go a ways toward explaining why every so often you see a guy online who’s like “I’m going to do muscle bro culture, but leftistly, to win back the Joe Rogan types” and you check on him a while later and he’s explaining which genders were invented at MIT
my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

Well, well, well. Maybe after getting treated for B12 Pernicious Anemia, severe autoimmune deficiency, and other long covid related issues, the last chink is my daily organic whey powder. Have to research it separately. Hubby sent this to me today: bsky.app/profile/unlo...
