On this note, I can't help but feel bad for anyone employed at Viz anytime one of their bosses at Shueisha rambles on in interviews about how absolutely certain they are that in 5 or 6 years, machine translation will be good enough to take over the entire localization process

As the threat of AI translations and subtitles keeps rising, at some point we need to have the conversation about how the push for these are coming more from JP producers and publishers rather than western ones because the reality is Japan generally doesn't care that much about localization quality

When I was a teenager, the only time you heard about IRL nazis was if someone saw skinheads or confederates hanging around Morton's Gap, and you'd drive up and provoke 'em into a fight. This wasn't, like an everyday occurrence! Nazis knew not to poke their heads out or normal folks would clobber 'em

Almost certainly the best thing I was ever told about owls was when I met an owl handler at an owl sanctuary and he told me that the wild owls who lived near the sanctuary worried about the tame show owls there and sometimes stopped by to leave them shrews and mice as presents.

An owl handler I met (although not the one in my anecdote) with his beautiful owl.
