The worst thing about the ongoing ”peace negotiations” and Trump’s Greenland gambit is that they distract from Russia’s ongoing humanitarian warfare.

Happy to report that @lapatina.bsky.social and friends have been busy delivering emergency batteries around Kyiv ! A good way to help ⬇️

read online that someone set-up a premium rate phone number where callers get charged $3.99/ min. then they posted flyers in their neighborhood that said "call this number to report illegal aliens," but the number just puts them on hold with music. so far, they've made $17,000

Immigration offices are among the most stressful places in a city.

Emotions run high cause life decisions are getting made.

Navigating a huge building when you’re stressed isn’t an extra you need.

That’s probably why Berlin invested in a bold signage system for its State Office for Immigration.

Data protection, as a concept, grew out of post-war legal scholarship in Germany which reflected on the use of data about people by the Nazi Govt, and formulated a set of limits on data use which recognised that to collect and use data about people was to impact the people’s lives.
If anyone doubts how prescient and important the German Constitutional Court‘s 1983 decision on self-determination regarding information was - the US offers a powerful example of how things can go wrong
A manual for ICE's immigrant-targeting computer system, Palantir ELITE, was leaked today.

Let's look at it, then step back to evaluate how far we've come along a dangerous road and where that road might take us. 🧵

The app features gamified neighborhood maps, like Pokémon Go for hunting immigrants. Palantir warns the software is "not for mass prioritization of locations where lots of people it [ICE] might detain could be based."

But this is what actually happens when you give ICE a map and a quota:

Too many ignore things that happen to Black Americans first. Then act surprised when they become victims of the same injustice. We have seen innocent victims image tarnished to justify murder. Now we see them test rounding up journalists. Black people are tired of our coal mine canary status.

Web search is now so bad for coding stuff (it’s almost impossible to unearth obscure content with very specific queries, there’s always a bias towards obvious, straightforward results) that it’s basically forcing people to use AI

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.
