If writing is so easy why do people argue that they can’t do it without the pablumatic verbiage extruder

And if it’s so difficult then why do people think it’s not labour and writers are not workers

Public transit in Ottawa's capital is an absolute travesty. I should know. I use it. I regularly walk to and from work, an hour each way, just so I don't have to deal with it too often.
We live right on Carling Ave and my normal bus is 49 mins late and we’re still waiting. But hey, transit committee heard all the nice sounding %s this fucking city likes to spout cuz none of those people rely on transit to live #ottawa 15 mins frequency my ass

Ottawa friends! The All in a Day Book Club is holding a used book sale on Friday Dec. 5 from 3 pm to 6 pm at St Laurent shopping centre, raising money for the Ottawa Food Bank, and I will be there signing books and hanging out at least part of the time. Please come by if you can!

The "VERY LONG" warning is correct, but this was interesting to look through. I knew UBI type programs were tested, but I had no idea there were so many!

(The thread starts with general info about UBI, then lists a bunch of studies/experiments.)
I've been researching the idea of Unconditional Universal Basic Income since 2013. Here's a collection of findings I've compiled from various UBI experiments and studies of cash transfer programs around the world.

This will be a VERY LONG and ongoing thread focused entirely on empirical evidence. 🧵

Contact your loved ones favorite author and buy a signed book directly from them.
I hope everyone pulls back this Xmas with the insane shopping. Make something. Bake something. Write a song to share. Invent a game. Go for a long walk and chase snowflakes followed by hot chocolate with marshmallows. Be silly and playful with those you love. It's about the time - not the stuff.

To echo much of what's been said:

Please don't pirate books.

If you can't pay for a book, there is already a solution for you: use a library.

Whatever you think authors, illustrators, and other book career people make, it's less than that. By a lot. Stealing from us isn't heroic, it's crushing.

If you want a book your library doesn’t have, request it!

Or if you want an ebook that’s not available to libraries, use ereaderiq.com to track price drops on Kindle, or add the book to your wishlist on Kobo and they’ll notify you. I’m very poor and have tons of ebooks I’ve bought for $1 on sale.

Every year for the last 3 years, when I make arrangements to give Xmas cookies to our friends & neighbors, fully half of them are sick. Not an exaggeration! It’s wacky. You don’t have to spend the holidays sick, you have options. Ventilation & masks work wonders.
We always see a surge of infectious disease, including COVID, RSV, etc etc around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Unless you want to gift your fam with a few weeks sick this year, mask up as you travel!

These stamps feature Kate Beaton, Jimmy Beaulieu, Guy Delisle, Julie Doucet, Bryan Lee O’Malley and Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, alongside some of their famous works.

Oh! I'm late to this, but I really like this question.
I am S.M. Carrière. There are too many good stories to stick to just one genre.
I can only answer for the heroes (character limits), but gentleness. There is a gentle side to them, even when they're capable of cutting through swathes of enemies.
Here we go, #HorrorWritersChat!

Q1 has arrived. It's international men's day today, and I thought actually that's a good topic. Not the easiest one to build questions around, either. So if I do not hit the mark I am sure you will forgive me.
As usual, no links, no pitches, not till the end.
November 19, 2025 at 9:08 PM
WHAT?! I hope they don't make it too dark and gritty. I adore gritty stories, but sometimes something hopeful and slightly camp is called for. It's part of what made SG1 so special to me.

Oh no. Anyway...
(Every author, please file a claim)
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.
