California is the movie theater attached to it that is the only thing left people go to
The U.S. is giving dying mall vibes.

I can't explain it, but you know I'm right.

There are also fewer young women willing to "play house" with a guy who doesn't pull his own weight. That sort of thing used to be a form of rebellion for women. Now it's just tedious. Don't know if that's because the guys no longer pretend to be artists.

My sense is that the “male loneliness crisis” is not really about addressing men’s emotional needs but rather the relatively newfound absence of having someone to perform domestic labor for you quietly in the background now that there is a longer gap between your mother and your wife doing it

This is a spectacular thread about Wake Up Dead Man and Catholicism.
Alice has now seen “Wake Up Dead Man” which means now I can talk about “Wake Up Dead Man” as approximately one million of you have asked me to do. intermittent live-blog in the quoted thread. gay Catholic musings below:

Mamdani is so fucking good at politics. I hope other electeds are noticing. I cannot imagine my shithead rep Doug LaMalfa listening to a dozen random people in his district and caring about what they said, but I can imagine some smart Dem challengers doing this before the election.
This past Sunday, from 8am to 8pm, New Yorkers from every corner of our city traveled to the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria to share their dreams, their worries, the change they want to see across New York. It was an honor listening to each of them.

Exactly. It’s why men are constantly rolling up to tell us “maybe he has adhd you should talk to him”. Or “well he can’t help it you should make him a list”

The systematic infantilization of men while systematically giving them all the power in govt, is batshit insane.

You know what I’ve never heard in my life is a person say “I had wonderful, caring parents who weren’t always perfect but tried very hard and loved me and I’ve decided to cut them off entirely.”

And yet all of these parents seem very sure that’s what’s happening
Welcome to the pissed-off parent pushback: After years of therapists and others encouraging adult children to cut ties with families they deem harmful or “toxic,” estranged parents are speaking out on.wsj.com/4s49U52
These Moms Are Done Being ‘Doormats’ for Their Estranged Children
Parents publicly blast their adult offspring for cutting them off, drawing tens of thousands of online followers.

Oh yeah...the House GOP bill also includes even more restrictive language about abortion...

...but via an INSANELY ironic twist, THE ABORTION LANGUAGE WOULD ACTUALLY HURT RED STATE ENROLLEES FAR MORE THAN BLUE STATE ENROLLEES.

One of the most surreal & ironic #MAGAMurderBill provisions would harm ~18x as many red state enrollees as those in blue states
A couple of days ago I took a look at the letter sent by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) to Democratic ranking committee members which broke out the ~16 million Americans expected to lose health...

America, you have spoken loud and clear: You do not like AI. But what if AI is the way to restart the world’s idea machine?
We’re running out of good ideas. AI might be how we find new ones.
What if the best use of AI is restarting the world’s idea machine?

One way that the reaction to Rob Reiner's murder mirrors Charlie Kirk's is that the best way to eulogize each of them is to quote their words, and in both cases, doing so pisses off conservatives.
Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

Rob Reiner either made your favorite movie, or made somebody you know’s favorite movie. If you’re a Californian, he’s also part of the reason you or your friends can get married. He has changed more lives for the better than this asshole commenting on him ever did.

Advent Day 15 (12/14): ABOUT A BOY (2002). Needed something heartwarming tonight. This is one of those movies that comes so close to being certified (but doesn’t) that I would never argue about its Christmas status with anyone. Plus, baby Nicholas Hoult! #AdventWatch #15
