It's #FemaleFilmmakerFriday! To celebrate, I've decided to begin this year’s #DirectedByWomen thread (and my annual Indie Spirit blitz) with GHOSTLIGHT (2024) by Kelly O’Sullivan and Alex Thompson, nominated for Best Lead Performance (Keith Kupferer). #52FilmsByWomen #1 #Filmsky 🎬🎞️📽️

Trump and Vought are now breaking both sides of spending law. They’re illegally not spending where the law requires them to spend, and they’re illegally spending where they don’t have the money to spend.

What we have is an appropriations king.

Spending “deals” are meaningless under that setup.

Find someone who loves you as much as rich assholes love bitching about San Francisco after they've moved away.

(And honestly, bitching about housing/rent/real estate prices would be defensible, but that's not even their gripe.)
Almost there, folks. A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE (2025) by Kathryn Bigelow is #50 of my #52FilmsByWomen. I liked the structure of this intense thriller quite a bit although I thought the third act could have been stronger. And, as with most films, it could've used more Rebecca Ferguson. #Filmsky 📽️

NO. It's fundamentally inappropriate for the @dscc.bsky.social to form a fundraising committee with Janet Mills. What happened to staying OUT of the primaries?

Federal officials telling social media companies to take down posts was supposedly a free speech crisis. It’s not even really hypocrisy, since the right was lying about much of it.
And this isn’t misinformation, foreign influence ops, or public health, just 1A-protected speech the govt doesn’t like.
At the request of the U.S. Department of Justice, a Facebook group used by nearly 80,000 people to report sightings of federal immigration agents in the Chicago area has been taken down by the social media giant Meta, Facebook’s parent company.

The group, "ICE Sighting-Chicagoland," has been increasingly used in the last five weeks of President Donald Trump’s intense deportation campaign to warn neighbors that federal agents are nearby.

The only reason I haven't gobbled them all up is that I also have Wicksons and King Davids right now.
In my neck of the woods (SF), these were particularly good this year.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

It is not difficult for men to express their feelings; they do so all the time. What they mean is that they don’t get the response they hope for—or the one they feel entitled to from women—afterwards.

So thankful that dudes without game now have the option of driving all of our energy bills up to come up with devastating lines like it was nice to meet you

My opinion? Bigelow > PTA. An utterly propulsive thriller that doesn’t center white dudes, doesn’t fall back on a tired rescue plot, and deals with some very real sh*t. #AHouseOfDynamite

Unconstitutionally taking money that the law says must be spent on one purpose & using it for something else—when it's to establish personalist control over the FUCKING MILITARY—is about as dangerous a constitutional crisis/failure as you can imagine

Via: www.nbcnews.com/politics/tru...
The Office of Management and Budget sent a notification to Congress about their intent to use research and development funds to pay members of the military, two sources with direct knowledge tell NBC News.

A spokesperson for the OMB confirmed to NBC News that it plans to use the research and development funds and that there are two years' worth of funds available within the Department of Defense.
For the record...

I was just reminded I only watched REDS for the first time last year. I had avoided it for a long time (probably because of its length). But it's worth every minute—in large part due to Diane Keaton. It ended up being #3 of my new-to-me watches for the entire year (out of 250+). Highly recommend.

I only watched it for the first time a year or so ago and I was sorry to have waited so long.
This #FemaleFilmmakerFriday, more Hollywood horror hijinks with a rewatch from the vault of unscored long-ago watches: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER (1992) by Fran Rubel Kuzui. Enjoyable, but should have been much better given the cast and script. #DirectedByWomen #52FilmsByWomen #49 #Filmsky 📽️

It probably does. I was just referring to his comments about sending the NG to SF.
He can just gtf outta here with this nonsense. Sad to see one of the (relatively) good ones go this route.
"Benioff, who also owns Time magazine, said he had not closely followed the news about the immigration raids, Mr. Trump’s call to gerrymander congressional districts before the midterm elections, the government shutdown or the administration’s attacks on the media."

I think if we breed humans and don't send them to school then they could be effectively used like animals. Some animals are shown to reach the intelligence of a 7 year old human, so if we're allowed to harvest and exploit animals then I don't see why humans should be off limits. Incels are already treated as sub-human, so what's the difference? Ignorance is bliss, so living a simple life as an uneducated slave is probably better than our existence anyway. We could have work slaves so that we can relax and enjoy our copes and we would obviously have sex slaves to fulfill our sexual desires. Giving women rights in the first place was probably the worst mistake humanity has
