This Buddhist prayer is deeply on my mind:

Metta Prayer
May all beings be peaceful.
May all beings be happy.
May all beings be safe.
May all beings awaken to the light of their true nature.
May all beings be free.

I just have an immense amount for gratitude for Minnesotans and everyday folks in every city who are actively resisting ICE.

Y'all renew my hope in America every single day.

they’re abducting our neighbors and putting them in concentration camps and they’ll empty a whole goddamn magazine into you while you’re lying on the ground if you don’t cheer them on while they’re fucking doing it.

Especially when the people they abduct are being brought to my state. They are my neighbors, by force.
All of these people getting abducted and shot are our neighbors. All of them.

If you are moved by what’s happening in Minnesota, you can already bring their actions closer to home. They are all our neighbors.

Stumbled across this footage from a Texas cold weather snap in 1954. At about 1 min in the clip, they show "smudge pots" used to warm citrus trees, and wow, that feels like watching an OSHA violation in progress.

Final storm prep:
- Got the last 2 windows caulked
- Tested my electric blanket
- Emptied the dishwasher
- Set my big cooler outside to toss fridge items in if the power goes out
Storm prep today:
1. Got my grocery shopping done last night, except for a few things I ran out to grab today because HEB was totally wiped out of eggs and half & half
2. Got all my laundry done
3. Ran the dishwasher
4. Stuck some temporary caulk stuff in my windows
Ok, I need to wrap it up for tonight, and get my grocery shopping done. The to-do list for tomorrow:
- verify charge on all small power banks
- fill up a spare bucket & 3 gallon water container
- Test my electric blanket
- Set up cot upstairs

It's a tie between A Solitary Blue, by Cynthia Voigt (Honor, 1984) and The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley (Honor, 1983).

I read them both to tatters.
What is "your" Newbery book? The one you read when you were little (or not so little), and took into your soul?

Mine's The Perilous Gard.

Hey, you can just go over to where the wind blows all the trash to your neighborhood and pick up enough cups to take care of your faucets for free! Recycling AND money saving! 🥴

In Minneapolis, one man knew immediately what he could offer and said “Bring me your clothing”.

I think I really want to get a 12V fridge for travel this year, and it can be a backup instead of trying to power a household fridge with my power stations.
