...these signals were reversed. Pravda was just telling whatever the regime wanted it to say, whereas the truth could only be found by reading the handouts on the street, the photocopies stuck to lampposts.

I am very interested in how this maps onto our world, hugely influenced by Putin's trolls

in the UK (and "the west") we had systems where you could *basically* tell what was true by the *format the information came to you in* - a photocopied handout on the street likely to be just ranting, a broadsheet 'serious' newspaper likely to be basically accurate (with caveats)

but in Russia...

At last I can talk about it! I'm writing a Star Trek comic!!!!

All I can tell you right now is it takes place several years after the end of Picard. And it stars Captain Raffi Musiker working with a giant positronic brain to protect the Federation from future threats!

Peter Capaldi in an episode of Poirot. He’s playing a clown. It’s a great precursor to Doctor Who.

I also learned the origin of the expression “blow smoke up one’s ass” from this episode. THE FUMIGATOR. 😱

We are watching Vienna Blood (PBS) and it’s set in Vienna, Austria in the early 20th Century. One of the main characters is Jewish and studying with Freud, so there is a lot of psychology. It’s riveting and also I have to take breaks from the intensity.

I only remember that my instructor was one of the football coaches and while I learned 95% how to drive from my parents, I DID learn how to parallel park from drivers’ ed. And then I got a waiver so I didn’t have to take the practical test, only the written, when I got my license.
okay one of my best friends just told me her driver's ed teacher was named

wait for it

Mr. Streetman

... and now, because the horrors are horroring, I wish to hear from Bluesky about all your great and bad and terrible and fun driver's ed stories

Had managed to forget about #AmazonFail

They didn't want erotica (especially queer erotica) showing up on their bestseller lists.

I had adult gay titles (including erotica) under my name, but ALL my books, including my non-queer children's titles, had their sales ranking stripped.

🤬🤬
If you're using Amazon Affiliates you may have noticed that some books, specifically erotic and erotic romance titles, are no longer eligible for affiliate income.

@iheartsapphfic.bsky.social noticed this and wrote a full explainer as to what's going on.

Y'all remember #AmazonFail?

Y’all got wild turkeys in OAKLAND????

Okay, now I’m convinced that turkeys took over the country and none of us noticed because we were busy dealing with the OTHER coup.

If you have wild turkeys in your area, reply with where you live. We must expose them!
My brother lives on a steep hillside in Oakland, California, and the turkeys jump from roof to roof to avoid predators. They sound like bowling balls being dropped from a plane and it's actually more unnerving than an earthquake.
