This week, I withdrew from a speaking engagement at a public university because they sent me a list of prohibited “words & concepts.” I will not humor this censorship. It does a disservice to the stories I’m discussing & the audience, who deserve unfettered access to information & conversation.

The way I would’ve seen this and left town.
There is a super-murder of crows flying by towards downtown San Francisco. This went on for minutes and probably involved more than a thousand crows.

I'm fairly sure that most supervisors would be happy to spend more time with their mentees. However, the more you climb the proverbial academic ladder, the more people, teaching, and everything else seem to start pulling at you for your time. It's a system problem, not always a supervisor problem.
