I love my country. No one’s going to be accusing us of having a good time.
Your annual reminder that the most revealing difference between Irish and Scottish Gaelic is definitely in the words for December: Mí na Nollag (Month of Christmas) in Ireland, and An Dubhlachd (the Blackness) in Scotland. So once again may I wish you all a lovely Blackness.

As a children’s bookseller I spent quite some time every week explaining two things - why visual literacy is important and why comic books are ‘real’ books.
And why certain books are better read when a child is older and more able to understand the emotional complexity on the page.

Had to use the chat function to try and get British Gas to decrease my Direct Debit. The advisor was helpful, bless him poor man, he stayed on track -- while I continue to live in this dystopian nightmare. #wealthinequality #TaxtheRich

Again - all we're asking of the super rich is that they simply get richer at a slower rate. If they scream and cry and threaten to leave over that, then I'm afraid much harsher action is justified to redistribute wealth.
@zackpolanski.bsky.social wants to introduce a wealth tax of 1% on assets of over £10m & 2% on assets over £1bn & if the super rich want to leave the UK because they are being taxed a tiny amount more then we should wave them goodbye

Thatcherite John Redwood says 1% isn't a tiny amount.

Fund the asylum system by randomly choosing a billionaire per year to have their assets taken down to a reasonable sum (say £50m - who needs more than 50 million pounds in a lifetime?) and the rest used to help refugees have nice stable lives in the UK.
I don't see how anyone could imagine that refugees as a group are carrying significant wealth with them in the form of stealable possessions by the time they get to Ireland or the UK.

Billionaire lads with a seat in the House of Lords and a few houses, on the other hand...
