The entire incident is infuriating and terrifying. She’s a Latina woman who was working a service job. On her way home late at night, with her headphones in, she was detained for an hour by masked federal agents who wouldn’t give her their names.

Maria Greeley, 44, had just finished working a double shift at the Beach Bar on Ohio Street
earlier this month when she said she was surrounded by three federal agents who grabbed her, forced her hands behind her back and zip tied her.
Headphones in, Greeley had been focused on getting home to her two dogs for a walk.
Instead, she said she was detained by masked agents who did not answer when she asked for names. They questioned her for an hour, she said.

It is absolutely a valid topic to bring up when a gang of grown men are kidnapping a minor based on no actual information or crimes. I bet you any amount of money there is rampant sexual abuse going on in ICE detention centers.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

I keep coming back to the fact that in Ted Nugent's Behind the Music in the late '90s, there is like an entire 10 minute section where he brags about essentially adopting a teenage girl to be his concubine on tour and no one batted an eyelash. And it's never brought up now.

People always seem to memory-hole the fact that, if you are going to get murdered, it's almost certainly going to be by a family member or close acquaintance, not a random, amorphous bad guy.

Literally no one has pushed back more against Trump as far as elected leaders. There are two sets of people to blame for this situation. Trump voters and the people who refused to support Hillary in 2016 because they thought it was all a big goof.

They are ignoring the fact that nearly every police force in the country is basically an autonomous fascist organization, and they have insulated themselves from civilian control thanks to the Supreme Court. See DeBlasio in NYC for starters. The NYPD literally threatened his daughter.
