Sociopolitical malcontent. Chinese lit sometimes. 我的名字是一个问号。
People wondered why evangelicals didn't get pissed when Trump held the Bible like he had never seen a book before but imo this is the theological polemic equivalent of that
Turning Point at OU posted this girl's essay in full and man is it rough

In the 60s, people would have written great answer songs to Drake's songs.

They would never allow a woman who looks like Stephanie Hsu on Chinese TV, sorry

Democrats think reforms/programs that take effect immediately are cheating or something
Structuring the Part D negotiation provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act do the benefit wouldn’t be felt until the next presidential term was real fucking dumb
How many of you are getting paid to fill prescriptions?
I’m sure not.🤔

I wish there was more emphasis on access to education disentangled from employability and focusing instead on enrichment because people who engage with education (or have the ability to) as enrichment interact with it differently. (And that's a whole society thing, not an in-uni thing) 7/7

Yes, his whole shtick was that he was brutally honest about himself and self-critical, but he wasn't honest about the worst parts of himself, which undermines the whole shtick
Even setting aside not wanting to support him for jacking off in front of people, I feel like the fact that he did it undercut the entire concept of Louis CK as a comedian: that he was a man with repulsive thoughts and urges, but who had attained the self-knowledge that comes with recognizing them
When a cancelled performer reënters the culture, we expect them to offer us a great work, channelling their newfound clarity into the finest art they’ve ever made. With his new comedy show and début novel, has Louis C.K. met the bar?

Darkly funny how all the war nerds on here are lining up to post like, "Actually if you look at the first Geneva Convention article 729–13 and the accord reached at the Truce of Amiens, you're actually not allowed to kill random people for no reason?!?"

Idk, I had a really nice group of students this semester who were super engaged and cared about film. You're always going to have students who are less engaged for whatever reason but I feel like you have to remember that you are not there for them.

Wondering if Trump is in the same situation as UK Labour where people bought a certain bill of goods and are not getting them and there's just not much you can do to turn the ship around once you've totally lost the public's trust

He has a 36 percent approval rating, they are agreeing to this deal bc they *want* this deal
BREAKING: Northwestern University has agreed to pay the U.S. Treasury $75 million, over the course of three years as part of an agreement with the federal government to restore funding and end investigations into the university

They are betting that the Dems will not punish collaboration. Are we sure that's a bad bet?
given how unpopular Trump is, it’s insane that civil society/universities/law firms are still asking themselves “how do I stay on Trump’s good side” rather than “how do I avoid facing consequences for complying with Trump’s illegal demands”
New Gallup poll shows Trump's approval hit a new low for his second term:
-36% approve
-60% disapprove

His approval among Republicans went from 91% in January to 84% in November

It’s important to note that every single one of these Chicago ICE/ CBP stories DID receive massive coverage by our local media. It was local press together with vigilant residents that documented & then unraveled nearly every lie about the incidents as well.

I think he's genuinely having issues standing for long periods of time...he's been sitting for a few of these now...
Why can’t he stand?

The slouch shows how little he cares about the dead soldiers.
“You’re a stupid person” — Trump lashes out at a reporter who presses him on the fact that the suspected DC shooter was actually thoroughly vetted before he was let in the US from Afghanistan

People are making fun of this insane approach to cooking a turkey but that's super offensive to Kat's culture of twentysomethings, this kind of cooking is sacred to them
broke: overnight brine, roasting a turkey for hours, obsessively basting

woke: shove the bird in a 500 degree oven for an hour and a half

All the cliches about political fights at Thanksgiving, but you know, it's also an opportunity to get drunk and bored and, as a socialist, tag team with your conservative-but-funny uncle on your complacent bien-pensant liberal family...

the invasion of Afghanistan is among the most horrific recent chapters of the long history of elite impunity in the US. this coda is grim but fitting - the govt practically explicitly affirming that it should only be Afghans who live with the consequences amid fading public memory of the atrocity
It didn’t even take 6 hours.

This is a man with a single digit approval rating pretending like he has any moral authority or sway. The chutzpah.
The current mayor of New York City, who isn't Jewish, tells the forthcoming mayor of New York City that in order to prove he is not an antisemite he should commit to being part of the Israel Day parade in May 2026.

Credit to Sam for actually laying out the argument but you could also just ask: You're saying normal ppl know about the Will Stancil Show? Like as many as know about The Simpsons? Does that sound remotely sane to you?
This is innumerate nonsense. An average of 1.1 million people were watching The Simpsons throughout its entire thirty-minute broadcast according to a third-party data company contracted to measure viewership by Disney. Somebody, no way to know who, hit the play button 1.7 million times on Twitter

There's not much you can say about Liu that "a professor who published an anti–PMC book w a university press" doesn't say already.
Catherine Liu is an interesting leftist prof but she uses the word retard as if that's transgressive against language police, & I can't take her seriously now.

Talk to anyone with an intellectually disabled relative & you'll find it's not virtue signalling, it's visceral. Mocking disability? Cold.

"Stealing ebooks is leftism" is a subset of the grand category of things that annoys me the most about contemporary internet discourse: nobody can just do a bad thing, everything they do must be morally justified, in fact, actively good.
