Really appreciate this section, every time anti-trans/anti-feminist people try to articulate how biology is necessarily linked to gender, they end up sounding like Galen or something talking about how the "excessive internal heat of the womb maketh the female embryo more brittle."

But surely men — who eat food prepared by others, wear clothes crafted by others, live in buildings constructed by others and, crucially, were once babies themselves — have bodies and relationships shaped by dependence, too? Why is merely being able to have a baby a more forceful reminder of human vulnerability than any number of common experiences of frailty, such as sickness (which for me, a cancer survivor, is a much more poignant testament to my dependence on others than my latent fertility)? In response to this sort of challenge, Sargeant waves her hands vaguely at a line of reasoning she does not really articulate. “Only women make these connections viscerally and literally, by lending our blood and our bodies to a child,” she writes. “Men also respond to the need of the vulnerable, but the shape their self-gift takes is different.” Different how? She does not say. Why doesn’t each man’s tenure in the body of another person count as visceral and literal? She does not say.

When the neocons realized they couldn’t beat him, they joined him. They decided not to go the NeverTrump route because they could see it was a political dead end and instead joined in. They were mostly the neocon lowbrows, not dynasts like Bill Kristol or mandarins like David Frum, for whom Trump remained too coarse. The Boca Raton wing didn’t mind the demagogy and actually quite liked it when it was directed at Muslims and blacks. It seemed like they got a good deal, for a while: Trump was, as they say, “good for Israel.” Neocons love to quote Churchill and warn against the dangers of appeasement. Well, I have a Churchill quote for them: “You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war.”
