A Russian diesel-electric submarine, B-261 "Novorossiysk", surfaced near the coast of Brittany, France, reportedly due to serious technical issues. A French Navy frigate has been deployed to monitor the vessel. NATO confirmed the incident.

Let’s talk about the sailing submarine. In 1921, the US Navy’s R-14 lost propulsion and comm when its fuel became contaminated about 140 nm SE of Hawaii. The crew jury rigged sails from hammocks, blankets, and bed frames. They were able to make about 2 kt and arrived at Hilo about 2.5 days later.
