I particularly enjoyed the both-sidesing in which Luigi Manzeoni is cited as a leftist influencer (??) on a par with Andrew Tate, clearly an amazing mind at work
Caught up with first of this year’s Reith Lectures. The bloke giving them claims the Fabian Society “revolutionised” Britain, and doesn’t even pronounce Gramsci properly 🙃🤷

this Girlguiding thing is so miserable. and so emblematic of the bigot playbook. a poisonous minority of mindless, soul rotted cultists intimidating decent people - who far outnumber them - because they have the backing of Big Transphobe. and for what? to make life miserable for a defenceless few

Today the news will be about the government's proposals for juries.

Please read this thread so as to be informed about the actual practical problems in the criminal justice system - problems which will not be solved by this misconceived and illiberal tinkering.
Here is a list of reasons why some of my hearings and trials this year have been delayed and kicked off into the long grass, stuck in our record court backlog. Serious allegations which will now be tried *years* after the event. 🧵👇

It's fascinating to watch someone make a point fundamentally, actively, about the danger of authoritarian cultural conservatism, and preface it with "This isn't about politics, this is a human nature thing."

No, dude, it's literally, "when you've been privileged, equality feels like persecution."
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

I feel this so strongly. How long can the image of a white christmas persist into a UK that no longer experiences sustained cold in December?
We had the lighting of our street's christmas tree y'day: 5 degrees C, pouring rain, no snow

I wish there were a socially acceptable way to point out that 3 decades ago, it would've almost certainly been snowy, lovely and <0C. Lots of older folks there: I think on some level they know it

I just want to remind people that Louis CK masturbated in front of multiple colleagues over the course of many years many of whom because of it chose to leave the profession.
When a cancelled performer reënters the culture, we expect them to offer us a great work, channelling their newfound clarity into the finest art they’ve ever made. With his new comedy show and début novel, has Louis C.K. met the bar?

Louis C.K.’s Next Chapter
In a new standup special, and a début novel, the comedian navigates murky, post-#MeToo terrain: not quite exiled, not quite welcomed back.

Tom Stoppard's earlier work has not all aged well and his newer stuff was largely the fantasies of an old man desperately clinging to relevance, but in the middle he could break your heart, and his commitment to the art of theatre was indeed the real thing so this is a sorry day

The very first thing the Prime Minister does is use the household budget metaphor.

A metaphor - this report into BBC coverage - said could be "easily misleading."

Why is the government trying to mislead the country?

Curious that in a climate emergency, the BBC thinks it’s fine to have a helicopter hovering above central London for 2-3 hours solely to get shots of a car travelling 750 metres. Absolutely no news value, just burning carbon to full time. To whom do I complain?

What a rotten state of affairs that a teenage girl had thrust upon her the responsibility of being the only adult in the room because actual grown adults refused to recognise her either as a child or, more importantly, as a human being. A sad indictment of a pitiful society.

This week, I withdrew from a speaking engagement at a public university because they sent me a list of prohibited “words & concepts.” I will not humor this censorship. It does a disservice to the stories I’m discussing & the audience, who deserve unfettered access to information & conversation.
