NEW for @washingtonpost.com:

Fox News will not sign the Pentagon's press policy.

The broadcaster joins ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN in condemning the Defense Department for a policy they say violates their "core journalistic protections.”

Three batters into Game 2 of the ALCS, the Mariners lead 3-0. Julio Rodríguez took a hanging splitter from Trey Yesavage out into left field. A nightmare start for the Blue Jays. A dream continuation of last night from Seattle.

Would be a fun bit to do a bunch of reporting and then go over to Vance for like half a second, tell him to get boned, and then go back to something else. Invite these guys here just to get insulted. Don't give them a second other than embarrassment

STEPHANOPOULOS: I didn't insinuate anything. I asked you whether Tom Homan accepted $50k as was heard on an audio tape recorded by the FBI in September 2024. You did not answer the question. Thank you for your time.

VANCE: No, George, I sai--

STEPHANOPOULOS: We'll be right back

The President using the military as his personal police force to intimidate American citizens is deeply un-American. This is the behavior of an autocrat. Full stop.

And to be clear, it's more a comment on how defenses have evolved in the last 10 years as offenses evolved. Bobby Wagner was considered small for a MLB at 250 when he was drafted, but that's giant now since offenses shifted to smaller backs. Now it might switch back to big beefy boys

I don't study football like I might have in college, but isn't the Fangio defense all small fast guys who can cover? So you've got like 3 or 4 defensive linemen and then 7 guys who are 200-230 trying to stop Skattebo. It seems like a recipe for disaster honestly

Statistically (EPA per drive), that's the worst defensive performance by the Eagles since Vic Fangio became their defensive coordinator.

10 possessions: gave up 5 TDs and did not force a turnover.

Part of Leavitt’s justification for the Guard in Portland: people are “disrespecting” ICE and engaged in “civil disobedience.”

Section 12406 allows deployment only in the event of foreign invasion, a rebellion, or inability to enforce federal laws.

Not disrespect and disobedience.

Written 55 years ago, Schulz's heartfelt clarity cuts through the noise, even today.

h/t @tisserand.bsky.social
Scan of a typed letter from 1970, from Peanuts creator Charles Schulz, addressed to "Joel Lipton, 622 N. Foothill Road, Beverly Hills, Calif. 90210"

It reads:

"Dear Joel:

I think it is more difficult these days to define what makes a good citizen than it has ever been before. Certainly all any of us can do is follow our own conscience and retain faith in our democracy. Sometimes it is the very people who cry out the loudest in favor of getting back to what they call "American Virtues" who lack this faith in our country.

I believe that our greatest strength lies always in the protection of our smallest minorities.

Sincerely yours,

Charles M. Schulz"
