Very jarring how the media treats some lives as inherently and others not.

I am happy for hostages and their families to be reunited, but it’s shocking how little media attention is given to “how do Gazans grapple with the utter destruction of their homes, vast loss of lives, and ongoing famine.”

Nearly all the glowing reviews I saw were from men, most (at least visibly) were white.
I've only seen 2 Black women/WOC takes (incl. this one), both of which basically said the film didn't merit the hype it's getting as best FOTY and also called out hyper-sexualization of BW and other racist tropes

Some of the papers refusing to sign have literally just been dictation services/apologists for Trump's regime and GOP during the last 9 months.
I wonder what prompted the change of course.

Also the part seeming almost aghast the Aztecs and Mayans weren't "subjugating" South America.

Historians of colonizer descent really have worked soooo hard to frame colonizing other people as a hallmark of a great civilization.

A mom in Houston reported her 15-year-old son with autism missing. She spent 6 days terrified, searching for him. The whole time, Houston police knew exactly where he was since they helped ICE place him in a refugee facility.

This is beyond cruel.

It's an old, time-tested strategy from the racism playbook.

This is a MAJOR kink of MAGA acolytes.

We see it everyday in how they support Trump no matter what he does, and, more recently, in how they behaved after Charlie Kirk death.

I used to think people just didn’t understand what Columbus did but now I think some are really attached to him (as opposed to other worthy italians to celebrate) because their whole thing is not only getting away with doing horrible things but forcing everyone to praise them for being horrible

Who's going to tell the young'uns that not only did we memorize numbers of close family+ friends, but
we had a small personal book for other frequently dialed numbers
AND
when we didn't know someone, we consulted an ancient grimoire that had (almost) everyone's number.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

I want to know exactly who is saying this so I can ask them what does "even more pro-Israel" actually look vs Biden bypassing Congress to fund genocide?!?

Is Israel more amenable to Trump because he wants to help them fund a tourist resort on top of Gaza's ruins?

I really wanna...need to know...

not just the law firms.
He gathered a lotta folk:
He says, "...it was easy, I think, to say, ‘Well, yeah, I’m a progressive.’ But it didn’t really cost us anything. We could take positions on things we thought were correct, but they were never really tested...Well, here’s the test.”

the USDA’s research division banned more than 100 words from their publications, including “indigenous,” “black,” and “safe drinking water.”

In honor of #IndigenousPeoplesDay, please take a moment to reflect that, according to research, at least 150 different pre-colonial Native American tribes acknowledged third (or more) genders in their communities.
susankayequinn.bsky.social
My periodic shout into the void:

The only reason why anyone cares about anyone's gender is cuz the whole of society is based around assigning human rights based on gender (&societal privileges to the "better" genders)*

*terms and conditions apply, worse in some societies than others, but all do this

As we celebrate #IndigenousPeoplesDay, please keep in your hearts the #Indigenous people in Alaska whom the colonizers forced onto areas at high risk of flooding.

Typhoon Halong has swept away whole ass houses and many people are still missing.

Said this for years.
All of the left loved her tough, interrogative approach as Senator.
The "cop" label only materialized during 2020 primaries. It was started by Bernie worshipers who conveniently overlook how he (and Biden) supported that infamous '90s crime bill.
thenwmagpie.bsky.social
Then-Senator Harris was MAGNIFICENT. I watched her light Sessions on fire and knew I was seeing someone phenomenal. She was just as outstanding with Kavanaugh. People who started in on her being "a cop" likely had no problem with her prosecutorial skills in either of those hearings.
riseupwoman.bsky.social
Even if they care, they will ever see it as THEIR FAULT.
The "burn it all down bc both sides are the same" people are equally complicit and most of them are still saying that and/or throwing blame on Harris "for losing".
I've seen no remorse from them either over the ICE raids or any Trump atrocity.

Abortion rights are not only crucial to our physical health, but also key to our mental well-being. No one should have to live in fear and worry over not having control over their own bodies.

On #WorldMentalHealthDay, let's advocate for the right to abortion care.

somehow "excited delirium" COD almost always involve a victim who is
- a BIPOC or other marginalized person
- in law enforcement control (the only cases outside of police involvement are linked to a serial killer)
- killed via tactics that hamper breathing (hoods, tasers, choke holds, etc)

Keep your corrupt, grubby, abusive hands off Tish James, Donald Trump.

Your cowardice is showing — weak men seek revenge on powerful women who hold them to account.

But NY’rs don’t play. Our AG has been a fierce warrior for our rights, time & again. You better believe we’ll be there for hers.

At least 6 unhoused Chicagoans have been abducted by federal agents since September: 2 have been released, while the status of the remaining 4 is unknown. But the Chicago Coalition to End Homelessness is investigating reports of an additional 19 people disappeared.

Our comfort w/interruption can be shaped by our experiences and neuro-profile. Interruptions can cause anxiety for some. Some interrupters are being rude, controlling, inconsiderate, not listening, etc.
I read something about how conv pace, pause, interruptions, etc. can also depend on culture norms

Horribly, it wasn't just Haiti.
Several African countries, upon declaring independence, were forced to pay a colonial tax to France, with least 10 still paying an amount that collectively equals 85% of these countries' current combined GDP.
Reportedly, when any refuse, suddenly experience a coup.

Not that we need their approval but it's rare for RS, Billboard, et. al to recognize Black women at the top of these mainstream "best" lists even when these artists merit it by leaps and bounds.

Under the Third Reich, most Germans generally lived in the law-bound normative state, while Jews and other disfavored people were victims of the arbitrary and violent prerogative state.

The dual state is characterized by the facade of normalcy obscuring the fact of an authoritarian state.
