Rep Lateefah Simon in Minneapolis participating in a public hearing as part of the oversight responsibility of Congress.
I am in Minneapolis today to bear witness to the terror that Donald Trump has unleashed on our neighbors.

Democratic members of Congress are here for a field hearing to conduct oversight and hear directly from members of the community about their lived experiences and organizing efforts.

ICE is killing American citizens. Trump and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem have enabled a system of abuse of government power, militarism, and unchecked state violence where communities are treated as disposable.

Yesterday, I voted YES on another War Powers Resolution to stop President Trump's illegal actions in Venezuela.

All but 2 Republicans voted against the War Powers Resolution -- betraying their constitutional duties and refusing to hold the President accountable.

I voted NO on H.R. 7147, the FY 2026 Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill, which would continue to fund ICE & Customs and Border Protection at outrageous levels and further enable the Trump Administration’s racist enforcement actions against immigrant communities across this country.

Renee Good was killed in broad daylight by an ICE agent. The administration moved quickly to disparage her character, a tactic historically weaponized against Black victims of police violence.

Last week I cosponsored the Qualified Immunity Abolition Act of 2026.

My bipartisan bill, the Main Street Parity Act, just passed UNANIMOUSLY in the House.

This is a commonsense fix that levels the playing field and gives businesses in "special purpose
buildings" the same access to capital as any other commercial property.

I am heartened to hear that no one was critically hurt following a structure fire in downtown Oakland yesterday. Thank you to the Oakland Fire Dept. & Mayor Lee for their quick response.

This week, I joined my colleagues to introduce articles of impeachment against Kristi Noem.

She has ALWAYS been unfit to hold the position of Secretary of DHS and it is long past time she was held accountable for her betrayal of the Constitution and the American people.

ICE is violently and unduly targeting Somali and other Black, brown, and immigrant communities in Minnesota and across the nation. This behavior is not new and has existed in many forms throughout American history. But like before, we will not let this violence and terror go unchecked.

Yesterday, the Trump administration abruptly terminated $2 billion in federal funding for over 2,000 addiction & mental health programs nationwide.

I immediately contacted Sec. Kennedy, along with a number of my colleagues, demanding that the administration reverse course & reinstate these funds…

Secretary Noem must resign or be removed from office. I support congressional action, including the impeachment of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, to ensure accountability and justice.

He concluded with a simple message for the young trans people being targeted by politicians:

The Trump Administration is betraying the American people, provoking foreign wars while people starve and sleep on our streets.

Make no mistake - this is a confession of values.

Before politics, I spent decades working with young people. It’s how I got to know Coach Beam. His life's work was not to save Oakland’s children, it was to remind them that they were never lost.

To Cindi, Monica and Sonjha: thank you for sharing him with us.

Rest easy, Faithful Servant.

This administration gutted SNAP, Medicaid and ACA tax credits-and now they're attacking child care.

Parents will lose the care they need to be able to go to work. This administration demonizes the poor, then weaponizes resources they rely on in Democratic led states.
