According to Brian Stelter, 60 Minutes is finally airing the "Inside CECOT" story that Bari Weiss shelved.

She made Sharyn Alfonsi fly to DC to get an interview with Tom Homan and Kristi Noem for the segment, but both refused.

So it'll run tonight -- with no promotion and against the NFL playoffs.

If accurate, this raises the question "who is governing Venezuela right now, and tomorrow?" (The answer isn't "Delta Force" or "SEAL Team 6," that's not what they do.) While nearly every state has a presidential line of succession, that may not indicate where power actually lies in coming days.

So I have the cover story in next month's TNR.

I interviewed the heads of police groups; immigration defense attorneys, ex-judges and ex-prosecutors; former DOJ and DHS officials, and the former head of Border Patrol.

They're all horrified at what we've seen, and they all fear what's coming.
Trump’s Immigration Nightmare: It Is Happening Here

There’s a lesson here about writing in the age of weaponized lies: Always precede false claims with giant red text, ideally wrapped in a <blink> tag, that says “THIS IS A LIE I AM REFUTING!!”

But also, why is a book that makes this kind of lazy, bad-faith argumentation getting any accolades at all?

A small (personal) example of this book’s intellectual dishonesty:

My father-in-law is reading In Covid’s Wake, and excitedly told me he found a passage where I’m quoted. The quote in question is me saying the FBI worked to censor speech on social media.

Huh? When did I say that?!

Landed in Paris 14h ago and dealing with the usual havoc jet lag wreaks on me, so I can say with certainty: Emily in Paris S5 is the perfect soporific. Better than melatonin.

Can’t follow, can’t care for the life of me, it’s like watching a series of incoherent adverts, which it is!

Harlequin publish romance books.

Authors can demand in their contracts that their books not be translated via AI.

Imagine the power romance and smut authors have right now.
French publishing house Harlequin decided to use AI translation instead of human translations.

All their freelance translators (some of whom had been working with Harlequin for +30y!!!) were told they would no longer receive work from Harlequin

A drone dropped supplies that seemed destined for a crab boil at a South Carolina prison this week, staff said. The intercepted delivery included steak, crab legs, two bags of marijuana, Marlboro cigarettes and a small container of Old Bay seasoning, photos show.

The greatest trick the devil has ever pulled was convincing cultural (non-religious) Christians that Halloween, but also Xmas trees and Santa were secular (“pagan” in some retellings).
“Santa is secular”

Santa:
Saint Nick was based on Nicholas, bishop of Bari, an early Christian saint who gave gifts to people in secret, usually as a way to have done a good deed. The name Santa clause is a bastardization of Sinterklaas, a Germanic form of Saint Nick. It’s very Christian.
