I write books, drive a mobile library bus, help organise a yearly literary festival, drink wine, do poetry, read a bunch, and shout about things I love. Specialist subjects are crochet and dinosaurs. They/Them 💜🤍🖤
I've been doing #Nudivember but haven't shared my stuff yet because I'm still finding my way back to drawing...

But if I don't share now I never will, so here's a selection of my favourites from the first half of the month:

Predator: yah I went to Earth and it was *so* authentic, our guide provided us with traditional weaponry and everything. facing humans armed with nothing but a shoulder cannon and a wristblade was a really spiritual experience.
My working theory is they're a bunch of rich kids on their gap year.

Stayed up past my bedtime because me and my kid were intensively debating the narrative significance of musical motivs in Deltarune and I have exactly zero regrets

WHAT DID YOU DO, BILL

This is just so beautiful! I'm sure I'm not the only one who's looking forward to seeing dozens of posts about this photogenic doofus (complimentary) in the years to come 💜
The saga of the beautiful husky who needed a home, & the BlueSky folk who stepped forward to make an old-fashioned internet miracle...has had a lot of developments I've been too busy handling to update you all on.

She's ON HER WAY!

Many lichen species are sensitive to nitrogen pollution, making them natural indicators of air quality.

📱LicheN is a new app enabling people to help monitor air quality using lichens. Data gathered will improve understanding of N pollution and its impacts on ecosystems.

Finally finished watching ALIEN EARTH and... well, I was going to say SPOILERS but I'm not convinced it counts as a spoiler if absolutely no answers were provided by a season finale

Thought I might do some drawing but apparently that counts as "not paying enough attention to Moses"

WELP the stupidest idiots in history are in charge of the country, but I'm still required to tell you it's exactly SIX WEEKS until the release of GOD'S JUNK DRAWER.

And, hey, semi-related, do you need someone fun to interview for your website? Your podcast? Your late-night talk show? Let me know!

Unexpectedly having to Google if it's ok for cats to eat chickpeas...

Can't go to yoga, there's a cat on me

Fat Bear Week is such a good week. Also, the live wildlife webcams on explore.org are a delight.

My dad's answer was "I'd sleep with him for a bag of chips and the bus fare home", which sounds fair
I read someplace that when INDECENT PROPOSAL came out a TV reporter, outraged at the concept, did some vox pops outside the theater, asking a woman "Would you sleep with Robert Redford for a million dollars?!" Only the woman without hesitation replied "I'd sleep with Robert Redford for fifty cents."

The apple tree in our garden, which last year had zero apples on it, has apparently decided this year is a mast year.

The nice person in the bakeware shop sold me a chef's blowtorch, on the strict condition that I would not set anything on fire.

First thing I did when I got home? Accidentally spilled butane in the sink then managed to ignite the whole lot. Now I have no arm hair.

(We're fine! Nothing on fire!)

Happy #InverteFest everyone!

Please enjoy this tiny friend who was chilling on my front door the other day. I've no idea what type of friend she is, sorry, but she's very pretty.

Today I learned the phrase "dwell time", and I'm delighted
Another consideration, of which @mmmmtrams.bsky.social has reminded me: the greater busyness means dwell time at stations has increased, to allow the boarding of the greater number of passengers. That has affected end-to-end journey times.

Good afternoon especially to the fella having a stroll along the prom with the most beautiful boa constrictor in his arms (her name is Vesper and she loves the sunshine)

The most reliable indicator of how I'm doing mentally is to see how much stuff is in my backpack (the bag I take to work every day).

This picture is from today. But, on the plus side, me having enough spoons to empty the bag today is a positive sign!

Did one small thing to benefit my mental health today 😊

Everyone should follow Orkney Library
If everyone who follows us on Bluesky got another person to follow us on Bluesky then we'd have even more followers on Bluesky.

Who do you know on Bluesky that doesn't follow us on Bluesky?

I finally did it! This morning I got up at stupid-o'clock, tromped up Snaefell, and watched the sunrise on the solstice.

It was lovely. And there are skylarks nesting on the slopes, which is delightful.

So, as expected, the second play-through of Spiritfarer has emotionally devastated the entire household
