Real Genius really warped my idea of what college would be like

I've started a Youtube channel for uploading my mixes; I'll still post to Soundcloud as well. I'm going to be posting one old mix per week until Youtube catches up to Soundcloud, then I'll post to both simultaneously.

Welcome to my Youtube page, where I post mixes I've made. I suppose I should make that sound more exciting to get people interested, but if you don't like the sets then you probably aren't reading thi...

this is mostly a byproduct of the sheer size of the U.S. in England you are never more than an hour's drive at most from a premier league stadium. that's why high school football is so big in Texas, for instance, because even a university team may be half a day away.
just a reminder that *lots* of countries have universities, and (to my knowledge) none of them but the U.S. treat their universities as largely minor league sports franchises
LSU is paying its previous football coach over $50 million NOT to coach there while likely guaranteeing Kiffin something approaching double that, all while having an academic hiring freeze and budget cuts across the board. What is the purpose of a university (rhetorical)?

One thing I learned over the weekend from talking to finance people is that they assume the AI bubble is going to burst and their issue is figuring out when so they can time their trades right.

The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

What are the odds Lane Kiffin has prayed about anything in the last calendar year
Has there ever been a less victimized person acting like they're the victim lol

i'm over doing the "actually lots of minorities live in texas" thing as a defense of where i live because it increasingly works in service of the indefensible but i also just think pieces like this serve to validate the priors of people who already hate texas and have no intention of visiting

Broke: being mad at Democrats for the 2024 election

Woke: being pre-mad at Democrats for the 2028 election

Bespoke: somehow being pre-mad at Democrats for the 2032 election (!)
"I think we should beat the fascists"

"So we'll be voting for Dems?"

"I guess, though if I know those stupid feckless worthless Dems they'll just hand control back in 4 years to more fascists"

"Hm. Guess I won't vote then."

"Exactly. My job here is done. Those fascists sure will be sorry now!"

I have a potentially hot take

I don't think you can prevent what we're seeing with Kiffin/LSU/Ole Miss with better contracts or tweaks to the calendar.

I think we need a sense of professional honor, and failing that, *shame*, to actually set standards of acceptable behavior for coaches and admins

I'm really glad to see someone like Kelly finally saying this. bsky.app/profile/atru...
Mark Kelly: "This president, when he says things like 'third world countries,' what is he really saying? I think what he's saying is he doesn't want brown people in our country. And that's disturbing. It's un-American."

I reported on this story than just about anybody, and that just It isn’t true. EA would LOVE a college athlete union. They spent more money securing individual licenses than they will have negotiating with one entity. It’s the schools (and sssh also most of the players) that don’t want one.
Cool story. I think EA didn't wanna risk making a single dollar off player likenesses until any realistic possibility of a player union was dead-as-dead can be.

Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

This is a legitimate scientific revolution in meteorology.

Also, to be clear, these models are not the AI LLMs that most people are familiar with. They are machine learning algorithms trained on observations (actually reanalysis).
