a foundational belief of the modern right is that there is no such thing as organic disagreement with their policies, it’s all directed from the top down

they just can’t conceive that ordinary people find them horrifying

Fight Club provided a relief valve for people who never had thought about their feelings and confronted their inner emptiness. It was so much easier to destroy things, even if the actual intended message of the movie was more complex

It's *hard* to find your own purpose. It's so much easier to have an enemy and to hate them. This is why I feel America came unraveled when the soviet union collapsed; we had nothing left to strive for. Then a number of broadcasters realized they could turn Democrats into the next enemy

The idea that there are activists and citizens who attend protests because it’s what they believe in is completely foreign to them. If it isn’t a personal grift, they don’t understand the motivation.

Don't make me tap the Robert Pattinson quote, Leto.
“I always say about people who do method acting, you only ever see people do the method when they’re playing an assholes,” Pattinson said in an interiew with Variety in November. “You never see someone being lovely to everyone while they’re really deep in character.”

TFW Adam Nimoy agrees the original Enterprise was not a warship.
Facebook post that reads: It’s a mistake to call the TOS Enterprise a “Warship”. It was not designed to even have mounted weapons. That’s why they had to transfer ships power down to a cannon in The Cage. It’s also why when they finally decided they needed space weapons in Corbomite Maneuver they never really figured out a consistent spot for them to come out of. The TOS Enterprise is as much an explorer ship as the D, just built with the limitations of the time. As screen shot of a Facebook post’s likes. One of which is Adam Nimoy.

The notion that those who took part in slavery or conquest were merely abiding by the moral standards of their time necessary excludes those they targeted and kidnapped from those standards; *they* were never confused about this. But other white people were frequently disgusted by this stuff too!

Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century “woke” ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.

Below, are the accounts of Bartlomé de las Casas.
But too many of the slaves died in captivity. And so Columbus, desperate to pay back dividends to those who had in-vested, had to make good his promise to fill the ships with gold. In the province of Cicao on Haiti, where he and his men imagined huge gold fields to exist, they ordered all persons fourteen years or older to collect a certain quantity of gold every three months. When they brought it, they were given copper tokens to hang around their necks. Indians found without a copper token had their hands cut off and bled to death.
The Indians had been given an impossible task. The only gold around was bits of dust garnered from the streams. So they fled, were hunted down with dogs, and were killed. After each six or eight months' work in the mines, which was the time required of each crew to dig enough gold for melting, up to a third of the men died.
While the men were sent many miles away to the mines, the wives remained to work the soil, forced into the excruciating job of digging and making thousands of hills for cassava plants.
Thus husbands and wives were together only once every eight or ten months and when they met they were so exhausted and depressed on both sides... they ceased to pro-create. As for the newly born, they died early because their mothers, overworked and fam-ished, had no milk to nurse them, and for this reason, while I was in Cuba, 7000 children died in three months. Some mothers even drowned their babies from sheer desper-ation.... In this way, husbands died in the mines, wives died at work, and children died from lack of milk ... and in a short time this land which was so great, so powerful and fer-tile... was depopulated... My eyes have seen these acts so foreign to human nature, and now I tremble as I write....

My theory is that America had two options: Fight Club and American Beauty. The moral of one story was a person deciding to put in the hard work to improve himself and become something better; the other was "let's burn it all to the ground because I'm not being rewarded enough"

"Show them you're not afraid. Do it for the country. For the Constitution. For your family. For yourself. Do it for your freedom. While you still can."

This is excellent. Every Dem strategist who thinks there's risk in engaging these debates should watch it for guidance.

Growing up, the main bus in my town was every 10 minutes and always packed. I didn't worry about timetables I just left the house and knew it would be there. Now it's every half hour and completely deserted. This is no coincidence. Fund buses properly and people will use them.

Fight Club is the apotheosis of the American experiment. It explained how nihilism and violence triumphed over the boring, steady work of maintaining a society
