Dumb question: Have any BOOKS ever had a licensed pinball? Not movie or tv adaptations of books- an actual prose novel licensed as a theme for a pinball game.

Oh I remembered one. For a while whenever someone interrupted me when I was trying to concentrate on something I'd do Chief Wiggums' "What, whatwhatwhatwhat??? This better be about pizza!"

what's the stupidest/randomest Simpsons quote that lives in your head rent free? Mine is the urge to say "you said go to bread" every time I am about to head to bed.

There was a time nerds got mad that the LotR movies had New World foods like potatoes and tomatoes. They should have gone even harder in that direction. The Council of Elrond chowing down on corn-on-the-cob. Sam looking at the camera saying "Look away, Blanco Niño" and devouring a whole Ghost Pepper

My favorite aspect of the Columbus legend is him getting rejected by the Portuguese gets spun as them not recognizing the genius of his idea. No - he went into a roomful of expert navigators and made basic math mistakes, they thought he was a moron, and they wouldn't fund his idea on that basis.

It's the logical continuation of democracy! It's why I think anarchism is a thread that's been part of the US for a long time even if, again, that's not what most US citizens would have called themselves
prankster36.bsky.social
As people have been saying, if libertarians were intellectually consistent they'd be joining us on the front lines (and a very very few of them have been on our side, they've just been a squelched minority)
prankster36.bsky.social
Even within conservativism, libertarianism is clearly the better tendency than the usual oppressive authoritarianism, the problem is just that conservative libertarianism individualizes it and tries to paint it as the work of Special Chosen Boys

The degree to which the internet COULD be used to fulfill a lot of the traditional infrastructure and communication roles filled by the state and empower communities to step in remains staggering, I think that's why it's become a battleground. The right realized what a threat it was
prankster36.bsky.social
I'm trying to avoid crediting a vast capitalist conspiracy but the boundless possibilities of the internet, the communities that were arising from it, and the burgeoning swing leftward all being strangled by various top-down capitalist factors probably isn't a coincidence
prankster36.bsky.social
Also, I can accept that a lot of anarchist ideals probably weren't practically realizable for much of history once we started to get kingdoms and empires...but having genuinely populist mass media via the internet has been and might still be a game changer on that front
prankster36.bsky.social
The great thing about this is that I think it mostly arises naturally? We're literally seeing this right now, the state and capitalist forces get too heavy-handed and people start to both push back and look for alternatives
prankster36.bsky.social
Anarchism is more than that (though you can argue that's the emotional fountainhead), it's "if we don't want some asshole telling us what to do we have to work together to prevent it"
