An update on beloved community member and veteran, Zahid Chaudhry, who is being held by #ICE in Tacoma:

He may be coming home soon, but only because his health has deteriorated to the point where he will lose his eyesight if detained much longer, due to medical neglect and the poor conditions

Most recent vacant lot sale in the neighborhood that I see was $1.9M for 7,370 sqft ($257.8/sqft). Sounding minus the dollar paid by the course, the property owners at ~$256.8 sqft should have property values of roughly $4.95M on top of their existing homes and lots.

The assessed value of Broadmoor & Sandpoint Golf Courses has been <$1/sq ft since 1983 even while Seattle property has increased 2000-2400%. KCAssessor claimed value of private courses was transferred to the CC homes. It's not. We need to eminent domain the courses @councilmember-amr.bsky.social

This is to say: this golf course could be housing 13000-25000 people, AND generating $20-30 million / year in taxes, the entire size of the Dept of Neighborhoods, or >25% of the Seattle Public Schools deficit.

Instead it’s paying $85,770 in taxes and housing no one.

Assessments consider land and "improvements" (the structures) separately.

The land only (no improvements) of a parcel near me is assessed at $11,000,000\acre.

At that value, this golf course would pay over 12 mil in taxes.

Paul has been talking about the tax loophole that Seattle country clubs have been enjoying for a while now but WOW I did not know how big

This is Broadmoor Golf Club. It's a gated right-wing enclave for the rich in Seattle. The golf course is 7 parcels, 122.2 acres. It's assessed at just $76k/ACRE!

The takeaway here is that it’s time to buy Broadmoor & Sand Point Country Clubs from the oligarchs shirking their tax responsibilities at the assessed value of pennies on the dollar. If they don’t want to be part of a city they can move to Medina.
Per-precinct final data are now available for King County, Washington's general election. In the race for Seattle mayor, Katie Wilson defeated incumbent Bruce Harrell by just under 2,000 votes.

It’s time to eminent domain Broadmoor for the assessed value and convert the MAGA golf course to a public one so we can building housing and a real park at Jackson Park & 130th. @alexis4seattle.bsky.social @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social
In Seattle City Council's city-wide Position 8, incumbent Alexis Mercedes Rinck defeated challenger Rachael Savage by a more than 4:1 margin. Savage won in only 8 of Seattle's 2038 precincts.

The Roy Disney Family has at least 4 of these office buildings for the people managing their wealth. Maybe we should tax the rich?

Democrats (the DNC) needs to run strong candidates in ALL of these open seats

This. I think there’s fewer 3rd places across Seattle now than there was in 1990, and our population is 60% higher. This is a land use, zoning, permits, and housing problem
4:30pm on a Sunday and it's hard to find an open seat at the US Bank Center's Cedar Hall common space. The latent demand for third places in downtown Seattle is so incredibly high.

Curious and sad that MLK Labor initially endorsed the anti-worker candidate Bruce Harrell
My staff likes to say we ran a union organizing campaign: focusing on widely and deeply felt issues, sticking to our message, building solidarity, and connecting with those most impacted to propose solutions. Well, turns out MLK Labor agrees.

Have the Democratic Party, the Center for American Progress, and the architects of Project 2029 disavowed Larry Summers?

He's advising all of them and is a major liberal power player.

He was also used by the Dem establishment to attack Mamdani.

If they have, great; if not, why not?

Katie Wilson has a personal understanding of the rising costs that are burdening working people in Seattle. What's more, her extensive experience fighting for change at City Hall means she has clear plans to fix this.

That's why editorial boards owned by wealthy conservatives are so afraid of her.
