This is quite a hed/subhed.
1) Start with Vance. Use strong action verb. Accept the autocratic premise that the “Marines’ Might” are Vance’s to flex.
2) Mention the protest second and absurdly describe them as in the thousands
3) Treat Trump’s strong man use of the military as a partisan scuffle.

Seriously, cancel your NYT subscription if you haven’t already. It’s garbage. The crossword and games aren’t worth supporting this.
The NYT app the morning after the biggest wave of protest rallies in America in a generation

They buried the story between other headlines, opting not to use a photo too.
Would fall asleep to Van Halen’s first album looping on 8track stereo system all night.
Does anyone remember these? #Music

Excited to inform you all that the Department of Homeland Security is currently attempting to ratio me (and failing, as of more than two hours later).

With a heavy sigh, I repeat: bring back professionalism. For the love of god. You're running comms for the government of the USA. Act like it.

It's beyond that. Rehearsing your message until it becomes second nature frees up cognitive load to focus on your performance and audience instead of thinking about what you're going to say next, which allows you to appear more authentic. It's not fakery even though its similar in process to acting
Someone who’s really good at something makes it look easy. A person who’s really good at communicating can deliver a rehearsed message while making it seem unrehearsed.
“I need @govpritzker.illinois.gov to tell these goons to go home. And if he can't or won't do so, I need to know that, too.”
literally no need for this

the protesters were just standing there, not causing any problems. then here come the police, causing problems.

I need @govpritzker.illinois.gov to tell these goons to go home. And if he can't or won't do so, I need to know that, too.
State troopers in riot gear just plowed into the crowd, started arresting protesters and clergy.
I understand what you’re saying. Dishonest is a trigger word for some people.

I did theater in college and went on to be a research scientist. People thought of me as a natural speaker, but I rehearsed every presentation literally for hours so I wouldn’t go off on some tangent and stay on point.

Hey @govpritzker.illinois.gov, you need to do something about these ISP goons attacking protesters like @katmabu.bsky.social.
Police escalated the situation here in Broadview incredibly quickly. Saw multiple brutal arrests. ISP jabbing protesters with their batons like battering rams.

Here ISP lifts @katmabu.bsky.social by her feet to flip her over a concrete barrier.

Swearing in isn’t some ceremony. You aren’t a member of Congress until it happens. He knows that.

No phones, no staff, nothing.

I had to escort her into the Capitol on Wed bc Capitol police must treat her as a public visitor until she’s sworn in. And solo visitors aren’t allowed during shutdown!
Johnson: "Grijalva should be working for her constituents right now. I don't know what she's doing. I keep seeing their political stunt videos. She should be in her office. She should be working or in the district for her constituents" (Grijalva is not in fact a Rep. b/c Johnson refuses to seat her)

In retrospect, perhaps trusting all of the government's systems and data to Elon Musk and his band of 20-year-old cybercriminals was not the smartest move.
New: hackers just doxed hundreds of DHS, ICE, FBI, and DOJ officials. I went through the data. In many cases does look legitimate, sometimes includes residential addresses.

Wow. Sidney Reid, the DC woman just found not guilty of assaulting an FBI agent, issues a withering and gutsy statement on Trump through her attorneys.

"I feel sorry for the prosecutors really, who must be burdened by Trump's irrational and unfounded hatred for his fellow man."

It's a must-read:

Where on earth does the Trump administration get off talking about half of the country this way? What a sick way to talk about the political opposition.

Democrat, Republican, whatever—we are ALL Americans.

We need to show Trump what WE think with our voices and our votes.

See this for what it is:
*Trump wants to make the military/FBI loyal to him
*GOP refuses bipartisan legislation to pay the military
*Trump creates a new executive power: that he and he alone decides if the military/FBI is paid during shutdown

The subtext of this comment is that the Mayor of Boston is Asian-American, whereas the Mayor of Chicago (like almost everyone else that Trump refers to as “a low IQ person”) is Black.
Trump: "Boston had a bad mayor who at least is a reasonable IQ person. Most of them are low IQ. I mean, what's going on in Chicago ... "

Data from 2023. The good ‘ol days. 🤦‍♂️
Measles and pertussis are already on the rise.
Sadly we won’t see these numbers ever again, except for maybe SP, unless it escapes some lab freezer or closet (remember that one?).
Can’t you hold everyone accountable for being awful to varying degrees?
