This is a thread of the books I've read starting in October of 2025. Will start a new one in Jan 2026.
good news for my brain that putting holds on books at the library is basically the same as online shopping. Almost through 100 this year, very pleased.
Playing pickup frisbee in 34 degree and snowing weather and two guys walk through the park eyeball the game and ask if they can get in. They do and everyone has a great time.

Nothing like 2 hours of frisbee in the cold to make you feel a bit like a golden retriever. Hope everyone has a nice day.

3-0 sweep of Louisville with two clutch comebacks. Honestly Louisville was tipping a lot and not swinging. I don't know if that was because they were really out of system or if they thought it was a good way to attack, but it clearly fell apart.

Especially after Louisville's setter was like 10/10 against us on dumps in the match there this is crazy cool to see.

The police know what they're doing when they target like this, extra training will not fix it. You either break the cops or they break your ability to govern basically every city.
From the MN Society for Professional Journalists: St. Paul police shot three photojournalists (MPR, Reuters, Sahan Journal) with "less lethal" munitions during an ICE operation yesterday. One had to go to the hospital. They say they were specifically targeted by St. Paul police.

These workers fucking sacrificed. Unbelievable that they held out this long.
This is so incredible. You have to see the photos. These workers held the line for THREE YEARS www.publicsource.org/post-gazette...

Google used to hire their tickets and chats helpdesk grinders into engineering roles and gave them ways to get the experience to be credible in those roles.
one of the things i objected to most at at GOOG over the years, from the labor perspective, is the slow decay of the blue-collar routes up into corp. you used to encounter guys who started out swapping drives in 120 degree heat in the hot aisles and who were now SREs, and that's gone.
Yes. I probably could have put it better in the original post and tried to clarify in the next one

ok i watched the first season of The Pitt, did a bunch of Leo pointing during the exterior shots, and was generally pleased with it. I do think they handled the incel kid arc pretty badly. Stands out compared to the rest of it.

Played the best volleyball I've ever played tonight (the sample size is small. I am new) and somehow I have more energy after 2 hours of that than I did before.

At a recent gathering of Rogers Park volunteers, we heard from a neighbor who choked up telling us about their dad turning around and going home when he heard whistles up the street. "One of you may have saved his life that day." It all matters, it really does.
One thing that is tough about rapid response/patrols, besides constantly being threatened by armed secret police, is that for the most part they see the defeats. There are exceptions, but you’ll never know how many people were saved by slowing feds down, whistles, community alerts, etc.

Seeking people's favorite fieldcraft knots to learn. Decided not to be dogshit at outdoor rope stuff. So far I've got the double fisherman's, the bowline, the tension hitch, and a variety of figure eights down.

A proper truth and reconciliation commission after all of this is over would find every single person who has been deported or abducted or fled and offer them the chance to return with an immediate grant of citizenship and reparations. And if not then bigger check.
