This is a thread of the books I've read starting in October of 2025. Will start a new one in Jan 2026.
good news for my brain that putting holds on books at the library is basically the same as online shopping. Almost through 100 this year, very pleased.
Signal got polls, @meredithmeredith.bsky.social you've saved us from the horrors of the emoji react poll

Seeking people's favorite fieldcraft knots to learn. Decided not to be dogshit at outdoor rope stuff. So far I've got the double fisherman's, the bowline, the tension hitch, and a variety of figure eights down.

A proper truth and reconciliation commission after all of this is over would find every single person who has been deported or abducted or fled and offer them the chance to return with an immediate grant of citizenship and reparations. And if not then bigger check.

Exceptional community response here. Every bit of friction matters.
ICE agents in Syracuse came to detain a French man who runs a soap store and gift shop with his husband. Neighbors helped spirit him away to Canada.
When ICE came for Jeremy, Syracuse’s underground railroad helped him escape the country
Friends and family helped a well-known Syracuse man elude detention and flee to France

Thread for the Stanford Pitt volleyball match. This third set makes me believe that a reverse sweep is gettable. It's just looking cleaner. Pezelj is crushing it.

Journalist class solidarity is a more powerful force than most military formations. Truly it is free to remain silent instead of defending the NYT.
"I'm a rando who prefers to believe that everything is a conspiracy and am happy to tell women that I know better than she does how their literal job works" That a news org makes an editorial decision you wouldn't (or I wouldn't) doesn't mean someone is killing a story on behalf of a powerful person
"I write for the New York Times, and I can assure you that we've never buried stories on behalf of powerful people, many of those powerful people being part of NYT management. We only publish what's fit to print, like Zohran's application to Columbia that was leaked by a white nationalist"

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.
